Trabzon Cultural and Arts Centre | National Architectural Design Competition, 5th Honorable Mention 🏆

Our proposal for the Trabzon Cultural and Arts Centre explores the idea of a living cultural landscape - where architecture, public life and nature come together as one continuous experience.

Located between Atapark and Zağnos Valley Park, the project embraces the existing topography, organising its programme as a series of interconnected volumes that step with the terrain and open towards the city.

Two concert halls and a Black Box performance space are connected through foyers, galleries, terraces and public spaces, transforming circulation into opportunities for encounter, exhibition and cultural exchange.

The project extends the green continuity of Zağnos Valley into its public spaces, while the western theatre and exhibition plaza creates a flexible setting for open-air performances, festivals and public events. A material palette of terracotta, natural stone and warm earth tones complements Trabzon’s dense green landscape, allowing the architecture to integrate with its surroundings rather than compete with them.

We are honoured to have received the 5th Honorable Mention in the competition.

A day in Trabzon, bringing together architecture, ideas and conversation.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to attend the colloquium and award ceremony of the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Cultural and Arts Center National Architectural Design Competition, where our project was among those recognized by the jury. 🏆

Listening to the jury’s reflections and discussing the different approaches developed for the site was a valuable part of the process and a reminder of how much architectural competitions contribute to the culture of architectural discourse.

Our sincere thanks to Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, the Chamber of Architects Trabzon Branch, and our team for their contributions throughout the process.

Collective Library at AMRA by Citi Developers

The Collective Library at AMRA is conceived as a contemporary social reading lounge that brings together reading, work, interaction, and cultural exchange within a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Designed as a complement to the more introspective Silent Library, the space reinterprets the traditional library as an active social hub, combining the qualities of a library and a café to support different forms of everyday use.

At the center of the spatial organization, a sunken circular seating area inspired by an amphitheater acts as both a spatial anchor and a social platform. Framed by a continuous arched bookshelf, it creates an intimate setting that can accommodate reading groups, book discussions, informal talks, small-scale events, or simply moments of pause and conversation.

The surrounding lounge seating, communal tables, and coffee bar are arranged radially around this central element, allowing the space to remain flexible while maintaining a strong sense of spatial cohesion.

Materiality plays an important role in establishing the atmosphere. Dark timber tones, parquet flooring, patterned rugs, warm integrated lighting, and a perforated metal ceiling create a layered and intimate interior, balancing visual warmth with acoustic comfort.

Through its spatial organization and material expression, the Collective Library moves beyond the conventional idea of a library as a quiet, individual environment. It is designed as a shared cultural space where knowledge, interaction, and everyday social life come together.

Silent Library at AMRA by Citi Developers

A Contemporary Space for Focus and Reflection

Designed for Citi Developers’ AMRA Project, the Silent Library is conceived as a calm environment for reading, focused work, and individual retreat. Rather than treating the library as a purely functional space, the design explores how architecture can support different levels of concentration and interaction.

The spatial sequence gradually moves from a semi-collective entrance lounge, through shared work and relaxed reading areas, toward intimate niches designed for complete privacy and deep focus.

A warm palette of light-toned wood, soft textiles, curated artwork, and natural elements creates a contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere. Layered lighting combines ambient shelf illumination, focused pendant lights, and recessed ceiling lighting to provide both visual comfort and a sense of calm.

At its core, the Silent Library is about creating an environment where users can choose how they want to read, work, pause, or simply be alone.

Family & Intergenerational Wellness Center at AMRA by Citi Developers

The Family & Intergenerational Wellness Center is designed as a shared environment where children, parents, and grandparents can connect, explore, and engage across generations. The project reinterprets the idea of wellness through a combination of social interaction, creativity, emotional development, play, and technology.

Fluid architectural forms define the interior language, creating a sense of movement and continuity throughout the center. Soft transitions, rounded elements, child-scaled details, and integrated lighting contribute to a calm, accessible, and intuitive atmosphere.

The program is organized around a diverse range of experiences:

•Teen Digital & Creativity Lab: a dedicated space for e-sports, robotics, digital culture, and experimentation
•Kids Mindfulness & Emotional Intelligence Room: a calm environment supporting creative expression, sensory exploration, and emotional development
•Parent & Child Bonding Activity Studio: interactive experiences including robotic storytelling, VR, AR, and tactile play
•Immersive Storytelling Area: a 360° projection environment designed for shared storytelling and collective engagement
•Intergenerational Games Area: a shared space combining traditional and digital games, interactive drawing, and collaborative play

Technology is integrated throughout the center not as an isolated feature, but as a tool that supports learning, creativity, and interaction. The project explores how architecture can create meaningful connections between generations, transforming a wellness facility into an environment for curiosity, creativity, play, and shared experiences.

AMRA by Citi Developers, Pulse Arena

Entertainment spaces are often designed around technology. THX approached them through architecture.

For Pulse Arena, we created a gaming environment where materiality, lighting, and spatial composition shape the experience as much as the games themselves. Natural stone, warm timber, integrated lighting, and carefully framed activity zones establish a calm yet dynamic atmosphere, transforming a conventional entertainment venue into a contemporary social destination.

From virtual racing and arcade games to bowling, billiards, and VR experiences, each space is designed to feel connected while maintaining its own identity.

At THX Architects, we believe recreational environments should be as thoughtfully designed as the experiences they host, creating spaces that bring people together while elevating everyday moments.

Traum Kaffee, Baghdad

An Experiential Café Integrating Production and Space

Traum Kaffee’s third branch in Baghdad explores the relationship between production and experience, positioning the making process as an integral part of the architectural narrative rather than a function hidden behind the scenes.

Organized around a clear central axis connecting two entrances, the café guides visitors through a sequence where coffee roasting, baking, service, and seating become visually connected. Movement through the space reveals different stages of production, transforming circulation into an experience while reinforcing transparency and craftsmanship.

A restrained material palette of travertine, wood, concrete, and metal supports the brand’s minimalist identity, while layered lighting enhances both the operational efficiency of the space and the atmosphere throughout the day.

The project reflects a contemporary approach to hospitality design, where architecture is shaped not only by function, but also by the stories and processes it makes visible.

O House, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Located in Oceana Residences on Palm Jumeirah, O House reinterprets a traditional apartment into a warm, organic modern eclectic home shaped by light, materiality, and spatial flow.

The design transforms the core of the home through a key spatial intervention: opening the previously closed kitchen to the living area. This move introduces natural daylight deep into the plan and establishes a continuous, breathable layout. A custom curved kitchen island acts both as a functional anchor and a soft spatial divider, while reclaimed wall surfaces are reimagined with integrated niches for added depth and utility.

Material choices are guided by both climate and atmosphere, engineered wood flooring replaces marble for humidity resilience, while dark timber, travertine, terracotta, mustard tones, and natural stone create a layered, tactile palette rooted in warmth and contrast. Sculptural furniture pieces, curved forms, and custom millwork reinforce the organic language throughout the home.
Every detail -from frameless transitions and recessed lighting systems to intimate reading corners and spatial thresholds- contributes to a calm yet expressive living environment. The result is a climate-conscious, highly contextual interior where architecture, material, and lifestyle seamlessly converge.

Keçiören Belediyesi Fatih Stadyumu Alanı Fikir Projesi Yarışması’nda projemiz Eşdeğer Mansiyon ödülüne layık görüldü. Kolokyumda projeyi tartışma ve farklı yaklaşımları dinleme fırsatı bulmak bizim için ayrıca değerliydi; ödülümüzü de bu vesileyle teslim aldık. Bu süreçte emeği geçen tüm ekip arkadaşlarımıza ve yarışmayı düzenleyen Keçiören Belediyesi’ne teşekkür ederiz.

It was also valuable to take part in yesterday’s colloquium, discussing the project and engaging with different perspectives and to receive our award on this occasion. 🏆 Our project has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Fatih Stadium Area Urban Design Ideas Competition organized by Keçiören Municipality, Ankara.

Keçiören Urban Hub proposes the transformation of the existing stadium site into a multi-layered public center that preserves its strong place in urban memory while introducing a new, permeable and flexible urban life. The project reinterprets the existing field and surrounding tribunes as a central urban void-redefined as an accessible courtyard, event ground, and elevated observation route connecting different parts of the site.

A key aspect of the proposal is the creation of a semi-permeable urban interface along Kızlarpınarı Street, where daily urban flows are filtered into the site through a vibrant buffer zone accommodating social spaces, small-scale commerce, and public amenities. The program brings together green areas, an urban meadow, a hardscape event plaza, sports and activity spaces, and workshop zones that support production and community engagement.

The landscape strategy draws from Ankara’s steppe ecology, proposing a low-maintenance, seasonal, and performative planting system that evolves over time. This is complemented by a kinetic canopy that enhances climatic comfort and defines a flexible, shaded public ground.

Supported by a hybrid architectural language and a socially inclusive economic model, the project envisions the area not only as a spatial transformation, but as a sustainable urban ecosystem that fosters social interaction, local production, and collective urban life.
