Most termite damage is found in places homeowners never think to look. πŸͺ²

Under the home. Behind the cladding. At the base of the stumps. In the subfloor where nobody goes.

This is what a Pest-Nett termite inspection actually looks like β€” torchlight into every gap, every void, every potential entry point around the full perimeter of your home.

Here's what we're looking for every time:

πŸ”¦ Mud leads and termite workings along the base of the foundation
πŸ”¦ Moisture damage or soft spots in timber stumps and bearers
πŸ”¦ Entry points where termites can travel from soil to timber
πŸ”¦ Evidence of past or current termite activity in subfloor timbers
πŸ”¦ Conducive conditions β€” excessive moisture, timber-to-soil contact, dense garden beds

Most Brisbane homeowners have never had anyone check these areas properly. That's exactly why termite damage often goes undetected until it's already structural.

A thorough inspection takes time. Ours do.

πŸ’Ύ Save this β€” and check when your home was last inspected.

Think you know rodents? πŸ€

Here's a fact that surprises most Brisbane business owners: a rat can squeeze through a gap the size of a 20 cent coin. A mouse? Even smaller.

That's why "we don't have any obvious holes" almost never means "we're rodent-proof" β€” especially in warehouses, loading docks, and older commercial buildings around Logan, Redlands, and Ipswich.

So here's our Friday challenge: how small do YOU think a rat can actually squeeze through?

A) A 20 cent coin
B) A golf ball
C) A tennis ball

Drop your guess below πŸ‘‡ We'll reveal the answer (and why it matters for your property) on Monday.

The paint on this skirting board looked completely normal from the outside. πŸͺ²

This is what was underneath.

We found this during a termite inspection at a Brisbane home. The homeowner had noticed the skirting board felt slightly soft when they pressed it β€” that's the only sign they had. No mud trails. No visible damage. Just a subtle softness that most people would never think twice about.

What you're seeing is a skirting board eaten hollow from the inside by subterranean termites β€” with debris and frass scattered across the carpet below. The timber shell and paint layer were all that remained.

This is exactly how termite damage works:

β†’ Termites consume timber from the inside out, always leaving a thin outer layer intact
β†’ By the time you can see or feel the damage, the colony has been active for months
β†’ The debris on the carpet in this photo had been falling unnoticed β€” the homeowner thought it was just dust

The repair bill for this section alone ran into thousands. The full inspection revealed further activity in adjacent wall framing.

Annual termite inspections exist specifically to find this before it reaches this stage. This home hadn't had one in over three years.

πŸ’Ύ Save this and share it with someone who keeps putting off their termite inspection.

Swipe to see where they were coming from πŸ‘‰

Entry point: window frame gap.
Colony: nesting inside the roller blind housing above.

They had no idea.

This is one of the most common β€” and most missed β€” ant entry points in Brisbane homes.

Supermarket spray won't touch the colony. Professional treatment does.

We were called to a home in Ellen Grove this week. The owner hadn't heard any scratching. No signs inside the house. Nothing unusual β€” until we checked the external walls. πŸ€

This is what we found.

Rat droppings scattered along the base of an external wall β€” with grease marks showing exactly where they'd been travelling in and out of the property. A single rat produces up to 40 droppings per night. This was several nights of movement at minimum.

The homeowner had no idea.

One tip if you ever find this β€” don't clean it up straight away. The location, quantity and freshness tells us exactly where the colony is active and guides the treatment.

We treated the property. The homeowner is now on a rodent monitoring program.

August is peak rodent season in Brisbane. When did you last check your external walls, subfloor or garage? πŸ€

πŸ’Ύ Save this so you know what to look for.

You don't need to see a cockroach to know they're there. πŸͺ³

Most Brisbane homeowners only call us when they spot one in the kitchen at night. By then, the colony is already well established β€” and has been for weeks.

Here are 4 signs of cockroach activity most people miss:

01 β€” Grease marks & smear trails
Dark brown streaks along skirting boards, wall edges and door frames. Cockroaches travel the same routes repeatedly and leave body oil behind. If you see dark smearing along a wall edge β€” that's a cockroach highway.

02 β€” Frass in hidden spots
Small dark droppings that look like coffee grounds or black pepper. Check inside door hinges, behind the fridge, under the dishwasher and in corner gaps. If you find it β€” the nest is close.

03 β€” Egg cases (oothecae)
Brown capsule-shaped cases about 8mm long. Each one holds 30–40 eggs. Found behind appliances, under sinks and inside cupboard hinges. One egg case is not a small problem.

04 β€” Musty odour
A persistent musty, oily smell in the kitchen or bathroom. Large infestations produce a distinctive odour most people mistake for damp or mould. If cleaning doesn't fix the smell β€” it might not be damp.

If you find any of these β€” don't spray. Species-specific treatment using the right combination of liquids, aerosols and dusts is what eliminates the colony. A surface spray won't reach where they're hiding.

πŸ’Ύ Save this and check these spots in your home this week.

We were called to a Brisbane home this week after the owner spotted a cockroach in their bathroom. What we found went well beyond one cockroach. πŸͺ³

Swipe through to see what a cockroach infestation actually looks like up close β€” and where they hide when you're not looking.

Slide 1 β€” A German cockroach in the shower recess. These are the most common species found inside Brisbane homes and the hardest to eliminate because they breed fast and hide deep.

Slide 2 β€” Frass (droppings) and grease marks around a door hinge. This is what active cockroach harbourage looks like. The dark staining is from body oils left as they travel the same routes repeatedly. Where you see this, the nest is close by.

Slide 3 β€” The gap in the door frame where they were nesting. Cockroaches don't need much space β€” any crack wide enough to slide a card through is wide enough for a German cockroach.

Here's what's important to understand: German cockroaches are not a single-product fix. Depending on the species and infestation level we use a combination of formulations β€” liquids, aerosols and dusts applied to the specific areas where they're harbouring. Surface sprays from the supermarket won't reach the nest and won't solve the problem.

This infestation was treated and the homeowner is now on a scheduled program.

πŸ’Ύ Save this β€” cockroach evidence most Brisbane homeowners have never seen before.

Welcome to August, Brisbane. πŸ—“οΈ

The coldest month of the year β€” and the one where pest pressure is easiest to ignore. But here's what's actually happening around your home and business right now:

πŸ€ RODENTS β€” PEAK SEASON
August is the height of rodent season in SE QLD. Rats and mice are deep inside roof voids, wall cavities and subfloor spaces. If you've been hearing scratching at night β€” that's not going away on its own.

πŸͺ³ COCKROACHES β€” ACTIVE
Winter pushes cockroaches deeper into wall voids, behind appliances and under floors. They're harder to find and harder to treat than in summer. DIY sprays won't reach them.

🐜 ANTS β€” ACTIVE
Ant colonies are foraging hard as they build up food stores before spring. Kitchens and pantries are the #1 target right now.

πŸͺ² TERMITES β€” ACTIVE YEAR-ROUND
Termite colonies never stop β€” they just slow slightly in winter. August is one of the best times to get an inspection done before the spring swarm season begins in October.

The best pest control is always done before you have a problem.
