Big news Gold Coast! π
FLEXiSKiP is back for FY26/27 and thereβs an important change that means more residents can access the service.
From 1 July:
β
Monthly booking caps are gone
β
Pre-orders are now open
β
One FLEXiSKiP available per eligible household each financial year
To support ongoing access to the program, a $50 service fee will apply per booking. Even with the contribution, FLEXiSKiP remains one of the most affordable and convenient ways to manage a household clean-up.
Weβre proud to continue working with the City of Gold Coast to deliver a smarter, more accessible waste solution for residents.
More access. More convenience. Better outcomes for our community.
For eligible residents, pre-bookings are now available at: https://handel360.com.au
π Budget Breakdown - FLEXiSKiP changes π
Over the past months, many residents contacted me after repeatedly missing out on a FLEXiSKiP booking. Following Cyclone Alfred, demand increased significantly and the service was temporarily capped each month to ensure it remained within the allocated budget.
From 1 July, those monthly caps will be removed.
The trade-off is that a $50 service fee will now apply for each FLEXiSKiP booking.
I appreciate that users of this service wonβt enjoy paying for something they previously accessed for free, however, the rationale behind this change is about fairness:
πΉ The service is accessed by a relatively small proportion of households, but is funded by all ratepayers
πΉ Moving to a modest user contribution helps distribute costs more fairly without constraining access
πΉ The change aligns with community support for a user-pays approach to waste services
Asking those who use the service to make a modest contribution (for a skip that privately costs $340-$350) is a fairer approach than continuing to have the broader community subsidise the full cost, particularly during a cost-of-living crisis.
A few things worth noting:
β
Monthly booking caps removed
β
One FLEXiSKiP per eligible household, per financial year
β
Pre-orders open now
If you're in a complex and/or were previously ineligible for FLEXiSKiP, your Body Corporate can now tap into the Bulky Kerbside Remissions program for funding toward a private arrangement.
For those who prefer to self-haul, the City's Waste and Recycling Centres remain available, with recycling and green organics continuing to be accepted free of charge - general landfill waste incurs a $5 fee.
