Have you considered home kills in order to supply your family's meat needs. We have been selling cattle and sheep to the local areas now for a decade. Home kills can be arranged with a mobile butcher and can provide your meat needs year round. We sell grass fed only lamb and beef and have saved tens of thousands of dollars over the years in meat costs. The big supermarkets don't even have butchers on site anymore and all their meat is trucked in, which is why the meat does not last long in your fridge. Home kills minimise travel, maximise animal welfare, and allow you to be in the driver's seat in terms of meat quality and longevity. Our beautiful angus calves have hit the ground and are raised on mum's milk, not feedlotted. The meat quality is second to none. You can pre-order with us by paying a deposit or organise with your neighbours to do so in order to share the costs. We are not legally allowed to kill here for you but there is nothing to prevent you arranging with a mobile butcher to do so on your property, or you can grow the calf or sheep out further according to your needs. Eureka Property Maintenance is a husband and wife team working in the Bega and Eurobodalla Shires. If you have a job you need help with give us a call. Our minimum is 3 hours. Most small jobs we can quote you over the phone. Our region is large and travelling out to people's homes to quote when diesel prices are pushing $2.90 per litre is very expensive. So giving us a call and emailing us some photographs is a quick way to give you an estimate of cost. It is also a good way for us to assess what we need to bring and the safety of the job. Please note jobs which incur fees (such as taking material to the tip) will be passed onto the customer. ANOTHER JOB BITES THE TIMBER. Do you take precautions against termites? Termite bait stations can be readily bought online and laid around your house and sheds. You seed the pods with untreated pine and check them every couple of months. If you find activity you then lay the termite bait in the same pods. An inconvenience on your busy schedule I know, but hey, much cheaper than tens of thousands of dollars to repair termite damage. This is something you can do to protect your most valuable asset. Don't forget your gutters - as we enter the fire season A SAFE GUTTER IS A CLEAN GUTTER. If you have trees (and even if you don't) around your house, consider a sprinkler system either on your home and/or around the perimeter of your yard. If you can, try to have at least two water sources you can call on in case one of them is taken by fire. Remember a well prepared resident is one who has quarantined water for fire fighting. Tanks, pools, dams, ponds cannot be taken from you and provide an excellent source of water in the event of fires. Are you wanting to plant native trees and shrubs on your property but are concerned about livestock and wombats trampling/eating them. The solution is islands. Protected areas that are as large or small and as many as your property and budget allows. Native flora will always self seed, particularly when close to other mature trees, but if your property has been denuded of mother nature's bounty, it is harder for the seed bank to come back. A helping hand is called for and protected islands can be a great way of restoring the balance. These areas can be fenced off using normal rural fencing or electric or even using pallets or other second hand material lying around. The other way to beautify your property and help with the return of native flora, fauna and insects is to put up secondary electric fences along your existing fencing. Again it can be as long or as short as you like. You can always start off small and extend later. Looking to start your own flock. Wanting some lawn mowers for the paddock or seeking to be a little more self-sufficient by killing your own home grown livestock for the table. Eureka Property Maintenance hasn't bought unprocessed meat from Coles or Woollies in almost 15 years. Our red meat bill 20 years ago was $100 per week. Over 15 years, taking into account inflation, that's a saving of over $100,000. We budget about $2000 annually to hire a butcher to slaughter our beasts. Take that off the savings and you still end up with a net saving of $70000. Not only are you saving money but you know what you are eating - it doesn't get much better than that! DECEASED ESTATE - You wouldn't believe it from this photo but this kitchen and living space was so full of furniture, clothing, electrical goods and other assorted family items built up over 30+ years that you could hardly move. The whole house was left in a total state of decay as the elderly gent who owned it had died. His son asked Eureka Property Maintenance to go in and clean the place up from top to bottom. We brought in 3 large skips and a bobcat for the space underneath the house. What we couldn't give away to charity or those who would take it ended up going to landfill.
