Spring brings fresh growth, warmer weather… and unfortunately, the potential for pests and lawn problems to pop up! ☀️

A quick check of your lawn each week can help you catch issues early, before they turn into bigger headaches.

👀 Here’s what to look out for:

🟡 Unusual discolouration — yellow or brown patches that don’t improve with normal care.

🐛 Pest activity — signs of chewing, damaged grass or insects around affected areas.

🍄 Fungal issues — unusual spots, rings or patches, particularly when conditions are warm and humid.

🌱 Thin or struggling turf — areas that aren’t growing as well as the rest of your lawn.

💧 Changes in soil moisture — some patches may be staying too wet or drying out faster than others.

The key? Don’t jump straight to treatment! Different problems can look very similar. Check watering, mowing and recent weather first, then identify the cause before choosing a solution.

W**ds can quickly take advantage of the warmer weather, so now’s the time to get on top of them before they spread.

Here’s how to stay ahead:

🔎 Spot them early — the sooner you identify w**ds, the easier they are to manage.

🌱 Keep your lawn thick — healthy, actively growing turf helps crowd out w**ds and leaves less room for them to establish.

✂️ Mow smart — avoid cutting your lawn too short, as this can open the door for w**ds to take hold.

🧤 Remove small w**ds — hand-pull isolated w**ds where practical, including as much of the root as possible.

🎯 Choose the right treatment — different w**ds need different approaches. Identify what you’re dealing with and always check that your chosen herbicide is suitable for your turf variety.

Remember, prevention is easier than a full-blown w**d takeover! 💚

🌱 TURF TIP TUESDAY

After a long, wet winter, your lawn might be looking a little tired — but spring is the perfect time to help it bounce back! ☀️

Here’s how to get your Kenda Kikuyu or Sapphire Buffalo back on track:

🔎 Check for thin or bare areas — winter traffic, shade and wet conditions can leave patches that need attention.

🍃 Clear away debris — remove leaves, sticks and built-up organic matter so your turf can breathe and new growth can get through.

✂️ Get mowing right — as growth picks up, return to regular mowing and keep your blades sharp.

🌱 Give it a feed — once your turf is actively growing, a spring fertiliser can provide the nutrients it needs for strong new growth.

💧 Adjust your watering — as temperatures increase, gradually increase irrigation to match your lawn’s needs.

And keep an eye out for winter w**ds and signs of pests or disease — catching problems early makes them much easier to manage.

Spring is here, which means it’s time to start adjusting your watering routine! 🌱☀️

As temperatures rise and your Kenda Kikuyu and Sapphire Buffalo move into active growth, your lawn’s water needs will gradually increase.

A few tips to get it right:

💧 Water deeply rather than little and often — encourage stronger, deeper roots.
🌦️ Check the weather first — spring showers can mean you don’t need to irrigate.
🌱 Watch your lawn — wilting, dull colour or footprints that stay visible can be signs it’s getting thirsty.
⏰ Water in the early morning — it’s generally the best time to minimise evaporation and give the lawn time to dry during the day.
💦 Check your reticulation — make sure sprinklers are covering evenly and you’re not watering the driveway, footpath or garden beds!

As spring warms up, gradually increase watering as needed — don’t just switch the retic on and forget about it.
