A Pot Belly Fig ive been playing around with for a fair few years now and turning into a bonsai. My dad was gifted this many years ago, so age wise the plant would be between 20 to 30 years old. Ive been searching for the perfect pot for awhile and today its gone into that pot which belonged to my Grandma and Grandad 🙂

You all seemed to really love my collection of Western Australian Native Tuberous Drosera, with 250+ likes on my Facebook post and lots of new followers, now ticked just over 1k following on Facebook. Thanks so much everyone 🙂👍 so I thought id share some of my favourite photos ive taken of West Aus Tuberous Drosera in-situ, plus the gorgeous red flower of Utricularia menziesii which is another West Aus Tuberous carnivorous plant 😍

Getting stuck into propagating the Dionaea muscipula (Venus Flytraps). Im going to do a free give away on a few of the hybrids that are well over due for repots.

Starting with D.m 'Redline' (x self). The person to guess the closest amount of plantlets that come out of this pot will get a free plant of this hybrid and a Hobby Propagations sticker. Please read below for more info 🙂

1. Tag a friend or 2 in the comments and your guess on how many plantlets you think there is.

2. Giveaway will be for locals only (anywhere between Perth and Augusta, give or take).

3. Pick up only (Im based in Busselton) or i can possibly organise drop off. If close to Perth i can do a drop off at Cockburn Shopping Centre, if more south of Busselton i can meet in Margaret River.

4. You can still tag friends and have a guess how many if you live outside of this area, just mention in comments that you're not local.

5. Winner will be announced exactly 72hrs from when the post was made. I will make a new post and tag the winner and will also send you a private message.

While talking about majority of the collection being dormant, this Sarracenia has decided it doesnt want to go dormant 😅 This Sarracenia hybrid which is S. (flava var. atropurpurea x leucophylla 'pink pubescent') x (leucophylla x x umlauftiana) is definitely one of my top favourites in the collection.

While most of the collection has gone dormant or slowed right down for winter, the Tuberous Drosera are well and truly awake now 😍 still waiting on Drosera gigantea, Drosera stolonifera and Drosera porrecta to fully get going, I did thankfully see some of those just pushing up through the potting media this arvo 👍

Photo 1,2,3 & 4 - Drosera squamosa.
Photo 5 & 6 - Drosera zonaria.
Photo 7,8,9,10 & 11 - Drosera pallida (Green Form) I made a pretty tall climbing frame for these as they can grow up to 3m in length and wanted to see how long mine can grow this winter. Only downfall with the bamboo frame is they cant really attach themselves to it like they would with trees, plants and sticks out in habitat, ive wrapped them around the frame a few times which has helped.

Photo 19 & 20 - Doesn't look like much or very exciting but those are the leaves of Utricularia menziesii. Absolutely over the moon to have these beauties in the collection. Ill post more photos of this one once flowering.

Most would know about these gorgeous Tuberous Drosera but if not they are Australian Native carnivorous plants which grow throughout the cold and wet months, once it gets hotter and drier they die back to their underground tuber and stay dormant until the cold and wet comes again. Pretty cool when looking at the botany and evolution side of things with these plants and how they have evolved over time to survive in our nutrient poor old soils and hot summer weather

Might need your spectacles on for this post. I acquired a heap of Tuberous Drosera seeds in January 2025 and had them germinate Winter 2025. Seeing lots of plants emerging after their summer dormancy. Fingers crossed they are all what the tags say and they aren't plants that may have drifted to a different pot when I sowed the seed, another couple years and should be able to confidently ID them

A beautiful Paphiopedilum insigne flower 😍 ive really been trying not to go down the rabbit hole of orchids cause thats just going to end up being another whole thing in the collection 😅 but I couldn't pass up on this bunnings find. Labelled as Paphiopedilum sp. so not 100% sure if its a hybrid or non hybrid but pretty awesome either way.

New feature pot for the shade house 👌 featuring (Carnivorous plants) - Nepenthes 'Miranda', Utricularia cornigera, Utricularia praelonga, Pinguicula primuliflora var. rosea and Drosera schizandra. (Others) - Fittonia, unknown ferns and live green and red Sphagnum moss.

Hi all, just wanted to give a bit of an update on Hobby Propagations. The last year and up until now has been a bit of a rocky road. Last year we lost our beautiful grandma, and grandad has needed to go into full time care and at the moment my younger brother is in hospital after having multiple strokes and cancer removal. In all the chaos we needed to move house and get set up again and also busy with my actual job and spending time with my son. So the position im in with Hobby Propagations is that I'll be going back to what I started out as and thats being a Hobby.

As much as I want to grow the business right now, im going to take a little step back. Plants are my absolute passion in life so Hobby Propagations wont be going anywhere, I probably just wont have as much available for sale like the previous years.

Once spring comes along and the plants start to wake up, do keep an eye out on my socials and Facebook Marketplace for what I do have up for grabs and at this stage all sales will be pick up only. I will always be propagating plants, hybridising them for new and exciting hybrids for the future, so stick with me as many exciting things will come in the future.

In the meantime if you're starting out on your plant journey I highly recommend you check these businesses and hobbyists out. W.A. Carnivores , RedRock Nursery , Venus Flytrap-Creations , Yelverton Protea Farm , Karnup Nursery - Arid & Exotic Plants , Owys Garden Nursery & Landscaping , Australian Native Nursery and Kalamunda Garden Festival just to name a few but there are so many more amazing local businesses here in Western Australia. Oh and not really plant related but definitely check out Chantell's business Made with Lovell in Busselton for all your cake needs (her Instagram got hacked but is available on Facebook)
