As a furniture maker I naturally end up with lots of offcuts that are usually not very usable anymore so they tend to go to my firewood pile. However I set myself a creative challange to make a few small objects before Christmas that I will be able to batch out if they gain enough interest.

Here is the first one - a Wind Chime. Enjoy some lovely ASMR.

Last week I delivered the biggest and the heaviest table I have ever built, and here is a little overview of how it all came together.

Early this year I was approached by Sarah J Marriott | Bespoke Interiors designer with a beautiful design for an outdoor table and a question " Can you build this"? Straight away I said yes, we locked this in and the wait began for Eco Outdoor lava stone tiles to come from Europe. These got delivered in late May and I was ready to dive right in.

One of the main design features asked for a powder-coated steel frame with angled edges. SALT X STEEL x.steel was keen to get on the board for this one and did an amazing job with all the tricky details including the custom folded edging.

That angle also meant that during the tiling process all the tiles had to be undercut to suit.

When I first saw the design I knew that it wouldn't be the lightest table out there. To ensure the structural integrity, we went for 100 x 100mm Teak posts. These were, unfortunately, too big for all my saws, so all joinery had to be cut by hand. That was all put together with epoxy glue and bolted through the steel frame straight into the legs.

After all this when the table was sitting finished in my workshop, the feeling of satisfaction was through the roof. All that was left was to dismantle it, wrapped in protection, deliver it 9 hours up the road to Sydney and install it.

This was an incredible experience and it definitely pushed me as a maker. I'm very grateful to Sarah J Marriott | Bespoke Interiors for trusting me to build and deliver a table like this for their client.

Also special thanks to everyone who helped to put this table inside my van ( yep this was a very much task on its own) and also Ateam Logistics for helping to install it with me.
