This renovation didn't start with a mood board, it started with a leak.

This home had a real problem: water ingress around the existing windows, combined with ageing bore water plumbing, had caused significant damage to the original tiled flooring, popped, cracked and lifted in multiple rooms.

The reno only happened because those tiles needed repairing and replacing, and we weren't going to put new flooring down without addressing the causes first. So the water pipes were fully replaced and upgraded with filtration, and the windows were addressed to get water ingress under control.

For the new floor, we worked closely with Cameron's Carpet Court and landed on Ocean Click Hybrid Floor, a rigid, fully waterproof core with a realistic timber look surface, so it holds up to Cairns humidity without cupping, swelling or gapping the way timber or tiles can, and it's easier to repair in sections if it's ever damaged again.

TL;DR: Fix the cause, then choose a floor that won't let it happen twice.

This is the view that sold us on the layout.

Positioning the island so its sightline runs straight through to the arched doors wasn't accidental, it's a technique called “borrowed view,” where you design an interior axis to frame something worth looking at, in this case those palms and that balcony light. Good design doesn't just fill a room, it directs your eye through it. Tag someone who'd love this kitchen.

A design tip we come back to on every project: repeat one soft gesture in unexpected places and a whole home starts to feel considered, not just a collection of separate rooms.

Look at the island bench, curved on one side, straight on the other, and it's not a one-off. That same soft arch reappears in the ensuite, in the shape of the mirror over the vanity. Different rooms, different materials, same gesture, mimicked just enough to tie the home together without ever matching outright. The asymmetry is deliberate: one curve, used sparingly, does more for cohesion than repeating a finish everywhere would.

Some spaces come with a personality already baked in.

Here, the arched windows and existing chandeliers set a tone somewhere between Mediterranean villa and grand hall, and rather than renovate that character away, we built the rest of the interior to support it. A light, hybrid timber look floor underfoot keeps the palette bright and lets those architectural arches stay the star of the room.

Great renovations don't fight the bones of a building, they listen to them.

This home had gorgeous arched openings, curved cabinetry and a ribbed ceiling profile already doing the talking, so our job was to design cabinetry and surfaces that speak the same language.
Look closely at the island: that fluted panelling isn't decoration for decoration's sake, it's a direct echo of the ceiling lines above it.

Small moves like this are what make a renovation feel considered rather than added on.

Some homes already know exactly what they want to be.

This one had grand arched windows, soaring ceilings and a distinctly Mediterranean villa character before we ever picked up a tool, so the brief was never to reinvent it, it was to complement the bones that were already there and build in longevity this time round. Every finish in this renovation, from the joinery to the flooring, was chosen to sit alongside that existing architecture rather than compete with it, and to actually last.
