A plunge pool is heavy once it's full, so the slab under it can't move.
For this job in Mooroobool, the slab sits under an elevated timber house, right beside the existing brick paving. Here's what went in before the pool:
- Stripped back the ground and excavated to depth
- Laid and compacted a road base foundation to carry the load
- Boxed it with timber formwork and set steel reinforcement
- Poured to precise levels so the pool sits square
- Ran a drainage channel with a metal grate where the slab meets the paving, to take wet-season water away
With Cairns rain and reactive soil, compaction and drainage are the parts you can't cut corners on.
