MILDURA GETS LIT FOR COMEBACK SEASON!
B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway Mildura will drop the green flag on its 60th Anniversary season on November 18 with a brand-new lighting installation that is set to stun competitors and fans alike.
Rebounding from an almost venue-closing list of issues last season, the committee responded with a dream to produce a Speedway Australia 5 Star Safety rated venue, future-proofing the sport for the next generations.
Project co-ordinator Jarod Waters felt a massive weight off the club’s shoulders when the lights were switched on last week.
“It was pretty amazing to see it lit up so well and a massive reward for the club who’ve worked so hard to get this result. We basically upgraded the whole power supply to the whole facility with new switchboards and communications infrastructure which will allow us to continue to keep up with technology as it evolves.”
The club just banded together with their sponsors, with B&S Earthworks and McQuinn Electrical bringing their own staff to help with the installations, while club members arrived in force for working bees creating a great club building experience in the process.
“Eaton Lighting were amazing with their supply of the lights, throwing in some extras to take our pit lighting to a new level, and Terry Kelly who’s a local competitor saved us well over $100k with Inland Cranes installing the new towers. We were also able to make all the lighting brackets inhouse here at the Enzed Mildura workshop as well, so it’s been great to have the resource of local businesses who know how much this venue mean to the area.”
“Federal Member Anne Webster secured $20k in funding assistance, while the National Australia Bank came to the rescue with a flexible loan which was amazing for them to understand the needs of a seasonal sport like ours.”
This would’ve cost the council at least $700,000 if it were to be done on their account, so the passion for the sport has delivered an amazing outcome that will draw competitors and fans from across the nation to race here.”
“The rebirth of this venue would have to be on one of the highlights of my time at Speedway Australia” said CEO Darren Tindal, “because of the way they responded to what was a very tough safety inspection last year.”
“Instead of shrinking back and letting the venue go to ruin, they doubled down and worked hard to get as much funding and support as they could to not just repair the issues, but essentially renovate the venue to a fantastic standard.”
The first racing event for the year is slated for November 18 with the Ross Crick Memorial before the venue hosts an impressive list of feature events including the Col Beasley Memorial Sprintcar Allstars event, the Sprintcar Easter Nationals and the two night Australian Production Sedan Title in April.
