On Monday, our team came together for what was another fantastic day away from the site for the annual Fugen Construction Company Update.

Starting the day off right with a delicious team breakfast, our Site Managers then showcased the incredible work happening across our past and current projects, giving the rest of the team insights into what they have been working on.

Managing Director, Stephen Flannery took us through a recap of the past 12 months and shared exciting plans for the year ahead, which was a great way to see how far we’ve come and where we’re headed as a team.

After the formalities, we hit the water for our annual harbour cruise. With the sun shining, a tonne of laughter, and the Sydney skyline as our backdrop, it was the perfect way to celebrate another year of achievements.

We’re excited to announce the successful delivery of our second project for Haps Hotel - a full venue transformation of the Hunter River Hotel.

Working alongside H&E Architects, the scope of works included:

- Full venue demolition and strip-out over two storeys.
- Upgrades to the main bar, sports bar, expanded kitchen footprint, bistro, gaming room and upstairs function space.
- Enhancements to the entry way, outdoor terrace, and beer garden.
- All-new mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fire services.
- A new lift for improved accessibility.
- Stylish finishes, including joinery, timber wall panelling, and a value-engineered acoustic timber-look ceiling to the bistro dining area.
- A dedicated children’s play area.

The project was completed across three stages, allowing the venue to remain fully operational throughout. With temporary bars, kitchens, and gaming rooms set up, we ensured uninterrupted service for patrons while delivering quality outcomes.

The result is a beautifully transformed venue that offers a modern, accessible, and family-friendly experience for all patrons to enjoy.

With nearly 20 years of experience, Rob offers a unique perspective to every project. Starting as a leading hand at Fugen in 2007, then advancing to Site Management and now Project Management, his experience on both sides of construction gives him an edge in delivering projects within complex live environments.

His expertise is evident in our many health and education projects, including consecutive project awards from clients such as Trinity Grammar School.

Rob leads by example, taking a proactive role in mentoring our younger team members in all areas of construction. And, away from the construction site, he's known for sharing his top burger recommendations around Sydney. 🍔

🏌️A DAY ON THE GREEN | A big thank you to all our subcontractors for joining us at our annual Fugen Constructions Golf Day last week. This event is a highlight for our team, where we get to take a break from the job site, share some laughs, and strengthen the partnerships with those who help us deliver our outstanding projects.

It’s always great to see everyone out of the work boots and into their golf shoes. Despite the chilly weather, the day was filled with fiery competition, great conversations, and a lot of fun.

We appreciate the hard work, dedication, and collaboration that you all bring to every project.

OFF TO THE PARC | Fugen is thrilled to share we have been awarded the contract to deliver the fit-out for Parc Pavilion, the latest hospitality venture for the Feros Group.

Parc Pavilion is an exciting new hospitality precinct, located at the southern end of Cronulla Mall, overlooking Monro Park. It will offer a variety of experiences, including a ground floor bistro and café that links to the adjacent Monro Park, a first-floor terrace bistro and cocktail bar, first floor restaurant and private dining areas.

This two-level, multi-faceted venue, designed by H&E Architects features a beautiful and functional design that connects to the park, and resonates with the local area and its people.

With our team starting on site this Monday, and works set for completion in early 2025, this project will mark our sixth collaboration with the Feros Group, having previously delivered projects including The Prince, Kirrawee and Taren Point Hotel.

🎭 STAGE IS SET | Fugen Constructions is excited to announce the successful completion of the Belvoir St Theatre refurbishment in Surry Hills. Working with one of Australia’s most celebrated theatre companies, we have revitalised their iconic space while maintaining the theatre's rich legacy in Australian storytelling.

The project scope included:

· Refurbishment of the foyer common area

· Upgrades to the gallery level and green room

· Enhancements to the foyer's amenities

Our journey began with an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process, collaborating closely with Belvoir St Theatre, TKD Architects, and Bloompark - Pact PM. This partnership enabled us to provide valuable input on buildability, project staging, and value engineering, ensuring a high-quality outcome.

We are proud to have supported Belvoir St Theatre in its ongoing legacy and look forward to seeing it continue as a cornerstone of Australian theatre.

🎉 Celebrating 15 Years with Ibby!

This week we celebrate Ibrahim, or as our team, fondly call him, "Ibby," for 15 years of incredible service. Ibby began his journey as a cadet with us on the Building Education Revolution project for the Sydney Catholic Education Office and Department of Education. Since then, he's grown into our go-to Health Contracts Administrator Guru, working on some of our biggest Health Infrastructure projects, including St George Hospital and now Westmead Hospital.

Don't let his quiet nature fool you—Ibby is a client favourite! His reliability and knack for consistently delivering the right outcomes have made him an invaluable asset to both our team and our clients.

Thank you, Ibby, for your hard work and dedication over the past 15 years. Here's to many more! 👏

PROJECT AWARD | After a successful collaboration during pre-construction, Fugen has been awarded the contract to deliver the refurbishment of The Mercantile Hotel.

This iconic State Heritage building, located in Sydney’s historic The Rocks, is Australia’s longest-running Irish pub, originally built in 1914 as a three-storey hotel/pub.

As a solution-driven contractor, Fugen offered valuable insights during the design phase, actively engaging with The Mercantile and our project stakeholders to identify project risks, provide buildability advice, and develop upgrade strategies for compliance, all while ensuring cost-effective construction solutions.

The main works will include construction of a new rooftop terrace bar and alfresco dining area, the upgrade and fit-out of accommodation rooms on the first and second floors, construction of a ground floor concrete amenities block with a courtyard, addition of a new lift shaft to connect all four levels, and a new commercial kitchen.

We look forward to bringing our expertise in hospitality construction to this exciting project.

🏉 Finals fever is alive and kicking in Fugen Constructions HQ and in our true giving spirit we are getting behind Footy Colours Day once again.

Held annually every September, Footy Colours Day supports the Fight Cancer Foundation by raising funds for patient accommodation, benefiting over 1,000 families annually, and advancing cancer research to improve treatments and outcomes for people of all ages.

Taking part in a day like this reminds us that even the small contributions can make a big difference, as they collectively create a lasting impact on those in need.
