Reviews like this really do mean a lot to us!

This particular project involved some pretty extensive repairs to a two-storey home after a vehicle crashed into the property at high speed. Not exactly something any homeowner expects to deal with!

We’re really pleased we could help get this family’s home back to where it needed to be, while making the whole process as stress-free as possible.

A big thank you to Kim for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. We’re proud of the work our team does, whether it’s a new build, renovation, extension or insurance repair, and it’s always lovely to hear that our customers are happy with the end result.

For those playing along at home, you might remember David putting together a little cardboard model recently to explain the ventilated roof system we’re using on our Wattlebank build.

Well, the real thing is now taking shape! 🔨

We’ve put together a quick video showing how the ventilated roof cavity system comes together before the roofing sheets go on, so you can get a much better idea of how it actually works.

Check it out and have a listen as David walks you through what we’ve been up to!

From plan to finished product 👌

A look back at one of our past new builds and a bathroom that definitely wasn’t afraid to do things a little differently.

Curved walls, bold green tiles, black feature details, warm timber and plenty of character. Seeing those curves on the plans was one thing, seeing them come together in the finished space was something else.

There were plenty of standout features throughout this build, but this bathroom was definitely one of our favourites.

Energy efficiency isn’t just about adding more insulation. It’s about how the whole home is built.

This is a blower door test, and it’s one of the ways we can check how airtight a home actually is.

The equipment creates a pressure difference inside the house, allowing us to identify and measure unwanted air leakage through the building envelope.

Why does that matter?

Because all those little gaps and leaks can add up. If heated or cooled air is constantly escaping, your home has to work harder to maintain a comfortable temperature, using more energy in the process.

For us, building an energy-efficient home comes down to getting all the little details right. Good insulation, quality construction, careful sealing and then actually testing the home to see how it performs.

A lot of this stuff eventually gets covered up and you’ll never see it again once the house is finished.

But you’ll certainly feel the difference when you live in it.

A final little look around our recently completed Surf Beach Small Second Dwelling. 🏡💙

Over the past couple months, we’ve shared some of the details that made this project so special. A home created to bring Mum closer to family, while still giving her the privacy, comfort and independence of a place of her own.

Thoughtful accessibility, beautiful finishes and a compact design that doesn’t feel like a compromise.

So, after seeing it all come together, we’d love to know…

Could you see yourself building a Small Second Dwelling for a parent or perhaps even for yourself one day?

We think there’s something pretty special about keeping family close, while still giving everyone their own space.

Let us know what you think in the comments. 👇

Thinking about adding a little extra space at home without going down the path of a full extension?

Our Tread Lightly backyard pods are a really flexible option, whether you’re after a teenage retreat, somewhere for Mum or Dad to stay, a guest space, home office or simply a bit more room to spread out.

Available in small, medium and large sizes, they’re designed with the same focus on comfort, efficiency and high-performance building that goes into every Hycon Homes project.

A simple way to create more usable space at home now, with plenty of possibilities for how that space can be used into the future.
