SPRING HAS SPRUNG… AND SO HAS THE ALGAE!

The warmer weather is starting to arrive, and unfortunately, so are the green swimming pools!

It's been another busy October at Macca's Pool & House Maintenance, with green pool recoveries underway in Mullaloo, Shenton Park and Ballajura.

After the cooler winter months, it doesn't take much for a pool to turn green when chlorine levels drop and algae takes hold.

We've been busy tackling:

✅ Heavy algae growth
✅ Green and cloudy pool water
✅ Water chemistry problems
✅ Filtration and circulation issues
✅ Cleaning and recovery treatments

Getting a green pool back into shape isn't always as simple as adding chlorine. Proper testing, effective treatment and good filtration all play an important role.

These photos show some of the challenges we've been called out to tackle — we'll share the results as the recoveries progress!

Don't wait until summer to discover your pool has turned green!

At Macca's, we handle everything from regular pool servicing to challenging green pool recoveries and equipment repairs.

Servicing Perth's northern suburbs and surrounding areas.

Got a green pool? Send us a message and we'll help get it back on track!

NOT EVERY POOL PUMP NEEDS REPLACING STRAIGHT AWAY!

Another pool equipment job completed in Hillarys!

This customer's pool pump was struggling to prime properly, putting it at risk of further damage and potentially premature failure.

Unfortunately, the pump's bearings are also showing signs of wear, so a replacement will eventually be required.

However, the customer wanted to avoid the expense of a new pump for now.

Rather than pushing an immediate replacement, we installed a non-return valve to help the pump maintain its prime and hopefully extend its working life.

✅ Priming issue investigated
✅ Non-return valve installed
✅ Existing pump retained
✅ Ongoing monitoring planned

It's not a permanent fix for worn bearings, but it may help buy the customer some valuable time.

At Macca's Pool & House Maintenance, we're about finding practical solutions that suit our customers' needs and budgets.

Sometimes replacement is the best option. Other times, a repair or improvement can help keep things running a little longer.

ONE JOB TURNED INTO THREE — POOL EQUIPMENT UPGRADES IN LANDSDALE!

Another busy day for Macca's Pool & House Maintenance, this time helping a customer in Landsdale get their pool equipment back into shape!

We were originally called in to replace an ageing Austral pool filter and repair a leaking 3-way valve.

✅ Old Austral filter removed

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME — HEAT PUMP REPAIR IN HOCKING!

Sometimes a little local service goes a long way!

While carrying out a regular pool service in Hocking, I was approached by a neighbour who was having trouble with his pool heat pump.

The controller had failed, leaving the heat pump unable to operate correctly.

✅ Fault identified
✅ Replacement controller organised
✅ New controller fitted and tested
✅ Heat pump back up and running

From the initial conversation to having the problem sorted — just 2 days!

It's not always about replacing an entire piece of equipment. Sometimes the right diagnosis and a straightforward repair are all that's needed.

Another busy week at Macca’s Pools!

A real mixed bag of pool work around Perth this week — from regular maintenance and crystal-clear pools through to a couple of jobs that are going to need a little more love! 😅

✅ Regular pool servicing & water balancing
✅ Green pool recovery started — more to come on this transformation 👀
✅ Copper staining treatment underway — another one I’ll be showing the progress on
✅ Filter media change — out with the old media and back to getting proper filtration and flow
✅ Plenty of cleaning, testing and getting pools ready for the warmer weather ☀️

One thing I love about this job is that no two pools are the same. Sometimes it’s a straightforward clean and balance, and other times you have to work out why a pool has gone wrong before you can properly fix it.

I’ll post the results of the green pool recovery and copper-stained pool once the treatments are finished. Hopefully a couple of very satisfying before-and-afters coming.
