Safety switches save lives.

Yesterday on a renovation job in Elwood, the plumber was unscrewing a bracket from the floorboard when he felt a tingle and saw a flash before his eyes.

Turns out a screw had been put through the floor (decades earlier), had hit the cable and was inside but hadn't caused malfunction nor blown the fuse. It was only upon undoing the screw that contact with the live wire occurred. In an awkward location too, the plumber was removing the screw by a hand ratchet.

One of the first things I did on this job before other trades begun was upgrade the old fuse box that had zero safety switch protection, to one with safety switches meeting the very best practice and modern standards. Without doing this, the outcome may have been very different than just a small electrical shock to the plumber.

Today’s switchboard upgrade at a unit in Elwood. The old fuse box with no safety switches had to go!
The new install has safety switches on each circuit and is brought up to best standards. Certified by my electrical inspector and powered back up.
makes some quality products and has the best domestic surface mount switchboard I’ve used as it’s taller for ease of fitting off.
