⚡🚗 Thinking about an EV charger? Here’s what to consider
Before you install a home EV charger, there are a few things worth considering 🤔
⚡ Switchboard capacity. Older switchboards might not be able to handle the power draw of an EV charger. This could mean you won’t get the charging results you’re after.
📍 Charger location and safety. Where the charger goes can change how it’s installed and what should be installed with it. Going in a garage? Put in a smoke alarm as well
🔌 Circuit and power supply. Your home’s existing power supply determines what charger speed you can actually run. Single phase vs three phase changes what’s possible.
📱 Charger type and features. Single phase chargers suit most homes. Some chargers also offer app control, scheduling for off-peak charging, energy monitoring, and load balancing so you don’t trip the switchboard when everything’s running at once. The charger’s kW rating determines charge speed, but only if your switchboard and supply can support it. ⚡🔋
