🏗️ Regent Theatre Lift Shaft Installation

A tricky install completed at the Regent Theatre, with this 18 metre tall steel lift shaft now in position.

Working within the existing old building added another level of complexity, with the structure installed internally and tied into the existing timber roof trusses.

The stairs will be attached to the lift shaft shortly as the project continues.

A challenging install, but a great result from the GSF team. 👏

Great to see the steel framing going up on this fantastic South Geelong project.

We’ve enjoyed working alongside the team at Atcliffe Walder Atelier to bring this design to life. A great project in a great location, and we’re looking forward to seeing it continue to take shape 🙌

RIVET 🔩

A glimpse into the history of steel construction.

Before structural bolts became the industry standard, steelwork was connected using hot rivets. Heated red hot, inserted into place, and hammered tight, these rivets created incredibly strong and durable connections.

Across Victoria and throughout Australia, hot riveting was the dominant method of steel construction from the late 1800s through to the 1950s, before high-strength structural bolts and modern welding techniques became commonplace.

Many of the bridges, factories, warehouses, and industrial buildings from that era still stand today, a testament to the skill, precision, and craftsmanship of the tradespeople who built them.

It’s always exciting to uncover pieces of steel heritage, like this beam bearing the England Steel Works mark. We love working with historic steelwork, preserving its story while giving these remarkable pieces of engineering history a new life.

Flynn - Apprentice

Flynn came to us as a first year apprentice earlier this year and has settled into the team really well from day one. He brings a great attitude to work every day, is always keen to learn, and continues to grow in confidence and skill on the job. We’ve loved seeing the way he’s fitted into the crew and are excited to watch his development moving forward.

Off the clock, Flynn enjoys dirt bike riding, listening to music, camping, and spending time around the family farm. If he’s not at work, there’s a good chance he’s outdoors or finding his next adventure. 🏍️🌾🎶

Liam - Tradesman

Liam has built a strong reputation on the tools as one of the few tradesmen who can confidently switch between workshop and site work and perform at a high level in both. He brings a genuine can-do attitude every day, is reliable under pressure, and always steps up to get the job done properly. We really appreciate the effort he puts in and love having him on the team.

Off the clock? Liam grew up in Kerang and still heads back to play football for his local team. Outside of that, you’ll usually find him at the gym, camping, fishing, waterskiing, or catching up with mates over a few beers. He also enjoys getting away on trips with his girlfriend, Cooper.

P.S. Still waiting on photographic evidence of these fish he keeps talking about 🎣 🤪

Jimmy - Workshop Superstar

Jimmy’s one of those guys every workshop needs. Reliable, switched on, and always ready to get stuck in, he plays a big part in keeping everything moving smoothly. He also specialises in welding stainless steel and aluminium, bringing a high level of skill and precision to the jobs that really matter. Whether it’s a tricky repair or detailed fabrication, Jimmy gets it done right.

Off the clock, it’s all about anything with two wheels. Jimmy’s big into motorbikes and MotoGP, and when he’s not talking bikes, you’ll find him spending time with family, heading off camping, and getting the kids out into the bush for a bit of adventure 🌿🏍️

P.S. If there’s a MotoGP race on, don’t expect Jimmy to miss it… priorities are priorities 😏

Damo brings over 20 years of experience in the trade and keeps the workshop running like a well-oiled machine. As leading hand, he’s the go-to for getting things done right, keeping the crew on track, and making sure quality is always front and centre.

Off the clock? Damo’s busy coaching St Mary’s U17 girls football team, getting out for a run, catching up with mates, tackling projects around home and perfecting his seriously impressive homemade pizza game 🍕🔥

P.S. We’re all just patiently waiting for our invite to “pizza testing day”… purely for quality control of course 😏🍕
