HOW TO CREATE ENERGY EFFICIENT CHRISTMAS LIGHTING

Festive lighting is a great way to show your Christmas spirit. Choosing energy-efficient lighting will lower your power bill for the Christmas season.

1. SOLAR LIGHTS
Think about switching to low-energy LED solar lights. Solar lights come in a great range of colours and festive designs for Christmas. You don’t pay anything to keep them running.

Use Christmas solar lights along your driveway or as a border around your garden. You can also find solar-powered twinkling fairy lights.

They are safe to keep on from dusk to dawn.

2. USE A TIMER
Most people like to leave their Christmas lights on even when they are leaving the house.

A good habit is to turn off the festive lighting when you go to bed. This is safer and there is no good dazzling the neighbourhood with your lights when everyone is in bed!

An energy saving timer is great to use to ensure lights are turned on at dusk and off near to bed time. This saves us remembering to turn them off and ensures energy saving during this time of year.

3. ROPE LIGHTS
Rope lighting is a popular source of decoration over the Christmas period. They are energy-efficient and require far less energy than the traditional string lights. Rope lights are long solid tubes of clear, bendable plastic and generate less heat.

LED rope lights come in a range of lengths and colours and are available in a variety of lengths.

They are low fire-risk and have a longer lifespan than traditional festive lights.

4. FIBRE OPTIC TREE
Think about investing in a fibre optic Christmas tree. They save up to ten times as much energy as traditional trees with festive lights. They are an easier alternative and a fraction of the cost.

There are different types of fibre optic tress, one that is dotted with fibre optic in its limbs and the other that is fully covered in lights.

No blown bulbs with this option and can be easily stored away so perfect for smaller apartments.

Always seek the services of a qualified electrician for any electrical work and consider safety when hanging Christmas lights inside or outside your home.
