Autumn Sowing 2026 is well underway, the team have been busy with ground prep, and sowing. Working tirelessly around the clock to keep up with the work, and in between we’ve been able to make a little bit of late season hay and silage. Even with an early autumn break, the paddocks are dry, and starting to look for a good drink again, so fingers (and toes) crossed we get a good rain next weekend. Give us a call to see how we can assist you with your autumn sowing plans.

COME JOIN OUR TEAM

Ever thought about spending your days driving a tractor until your heart is content, hanging out with truly awesome people, simply doing what you love, and taking pride in a job well done. Today’s your lucky day!

Here at Johness Hay & Ag, we’re looking to expand our team, and currently have a casual position available for a skilled tractor operator.

The position offers a broad range of opportunity, where the successful applicant will be mostly operating a variety of modern seeding and hay making gear, ran with Deutz tractors. Our tractors are all equipped with Trimble GPS. There is also the availability for truck work, and farm work.

Applicants for the position must be reliable, hard working, and be able to work in a team environment as well as independently. A good work ethic is a must have, also must have the ability to problem solve, as well as good attention to detail, and be well mannered and polite to staff and clients. Mechanical background is preferable, as you will be required to carry out regular maintenance checks on machinery and assist with repair breakdowns.

Applicants must also hold a current Australian drivers licence, and have their own reliable transport. Preference will be given to those who hold a relevant truck licence.

For the right person this could lead to a full-time position and run into the 2026 hay/silage season.

If you feel you would be an asset to our team, please send a cover letter and resume to [email protected]

Ideal conditions for making silage. This humid weather may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the grass is certainly thriving in it. 🌧️☀️ Today, the boss is in the tractor, mentoring Mackenzie, our new team member, on the ins and outs of the Johness way!

It's that time of year again! Autumn Sowing 2026 is here, bringing new possibilities and a fresh start. Hopefully, yesterday's rain provided a welcome boost to your soil, helping to prepare it for the season ahead - every bit counts, even 7mm is a start. We've been gearing up for a productive sowing season, with Jared meticulously fine-tuning the machinery, checking every detail from points and discs to hoses and bearings, so we're primed to make the most of the opportunity. Meanwhile, Aiden and Ossie have been making great progress getting paddocks sowing-ready, with deep ripping and running in the new Multidisc. If you're still planning your crops, don't hesitate to connect with John - he's always ready to share insights and help you make informed decisions.

Boy is it hot! 🥵 And the Lucerne is definitely feeling the heat. Got the pump going, and will be watering through the night, as its to hot to water through the day, don’t want to cook the Lucerne! So no sleep here tonight 😴

Over the last week we have been able to deliver two loads of donated feed to the Longwood fire affected area. A big shout out goes to people that have donated hay, a mixed load from Tim & Ben Lukies, Gary & Cheryl & Jane Brooke . And a full load of large squares from Ulupna Pastoral Company. We thank everyone for their contribution to help feed the livestock in desperate need of feed.

SLEEP, EAT, WORK, REPEAT. With rain coming too late, it meant an earlier start to hay season than expected, but has also opened up a window to continue doing silage. As a result we have been hit with a bigger work load in a much smaller time frame. So it has been all hands on deck for our team to get the most out of the season.
This season has definitely been a challenge, but we love what we do, and we will continue to strive for the best results for our customers. We are grateful for the support of our team around us, and continued support of our customers. Without you we wouldn’t be able to fulfill the dreams of a little boy, who always just wanted to make hay!

The Boys are now full swing into hay as well as still continuing with silage. The growth hasn’t been what we would have liked this year due to not enough rain to get the perfect finish, but still seeing plenty of great quality. Huge thanks to our team for always going that extra mile, we couldn’t do it without you. And thank you to those who continue to support our small business. We love making hay and we wouldn’t be able to do it without you.
