On Friday evening, we had the privilege of attending the HIA Apprentice Awards, where we were immensely proud to see not just one, but both of our apprentices recognised with top honours in their respective categories.

• 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮.

• 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮.

This achievement marks one of the proudest and most rewarding moments in our company’s history. It is a fitting recognition of the boys’ dedication, skill, and consistent effort over the past several years.

Given the high calibre of nominees and the outstanding talent across the industry, these awards are a remarkable accomplishment and a source of great pride for our entire team.

Last Saturday our one of a kind apprentice Zac Clasohm passed away suddenly. We are still in disbelief and completely devastated.

Zac started at Van Schaik Carpentry in February 2019 and commenced his apprenticeship at the start of 2020. Upon starting with the team he was a quiet, shy fresh out of school teenager. Fast forward to 2023 and he was the life of the work site with his endless comedy and cheekiness.

We are incredibly proud of the young man Zac had grown to be. He was a tremendously hard working employee with long days and weekend work. He was everything you could ask of an employee and more.

Our deepest sympathies to David, Annette, Josh and Lachie Clasohm. What an incredible young man you brought into this world whom we were lucky enough to share our life with. Our sincere condolences to the extended family.

Sarah and I (Tom) would also like to thank the many family, friends, fellow trades, clients, suppliers and members of the community whom have reached out to us at this time. We are beyond grateful for your love and support.

We have not only lost an employee but a friend and by all means an extension of our little family. Jack is going to miss his mate “silly Zac”.

The worksite, our home and knock offs will never be quite the same.
