You might know us for work around the home, but that's only part of what we do. Our team also looks after:

- Commercial electrical
- Solar installation and maintenance
- Heat pumps
- EV chargers
- Marine electrical
- Switchboard upgrades and underfloor heating

So whether it's a new switchboard in an older Hobart home, a charger in the garage or the wiring on a working vessel, you're dealing with the same local, licensed team. It keeps things simple, and you're not juggling different trades for different jobs.

Hobart's older homes are full of character, from inner-city weatherboards to solid brick houses, but plenty of them are still running on switchboards from another era.

Those older boards were never designed for the way we live now, with heat pumps, EV chargers and a kitchen full of appliances all drawing power at once. A few signs it might be worth getting yours checked:

- Lights that flicker or dim
- Breakers that trip more often than they should
- Ceramic fuses rather than modern safety switches

None of these mean you need to panic, but they're a good reason to have a licensed electrician take a look. We're always happy to give you a clear picture of where things stand and what, if anything, needs doing.

A while back, our team swapped the suburbs for the deck of the Petuna Endeavour, a working commercial fishing vessel, to handle the electrical side of a MUSTAD Autoline install. In case you missed it the first time, here's a look back at the job.

On a vessel like this, every day tied up is a day not fishing, so planning the work around the crew and their schedule matters just as much as the wiring itself. It's a very different environment to a home or an office, and one our team really enjoys.

Marine work is a big part of what makes us a little different. The same licensed electricians who upgrade switchboards in Hobart homes are just as at home on a vessel.

Have you had a look at your solar panels lately? 🤨

After a windy Tasmanian winter, it's common for a layer of dust, grime and debris to settle on them, and it's easy to miss from the ground.

With the sunnier months on the way, spring is a good time for a clean and service so your system is ready to make the most of the longer days. If you'd like us to take a look, we're happy to help.

Shop fit-outs, office refurbishments, switchboard upgrades, testing and tagging... if you run a business in Hobart, chances are at least one of those will land on your to-do list at some point.

We look after commercial electrical work across offices, factories, retail spaces and industrial sites. For most businesses, the tricky part isn't the electrical work itself, it's keeping things running while it happens. That's why we plan each job around your operations to keep downtime to a minimum.

Every job is done to Australian standards, with the compliance paperwork to match, so you've got everything you need once we're finished.

If you've got something coming up, we'd be glad to talk it through. Get in touch to discuss your project: https://www.rockelectrical.com.au/services/commercial-services

If you missed it when it first went up, our FY26 marine electrical wrap-up is well worth a read, especially if you've ever wondered what an electrician gets up to out on the water.

Marine work tends to surprise people. Alongside homes, offices and farms, our team spends a good part of the year working on commercial fishing vessels and marine projects around southern Tasmania, and it's some of the most rewarding work we do.

On a working vessel, the electrical system does a lot of heavy lifting. It runs the gear that keeps the crew working, so reliability and compliance really matter, and any downtime is felt quickly.

The wrap-up looks back over the marine jobs our team delivered across the 2025-26 financial year. Whether you run a commercial vessel, own a private boat or are just curious, we hope you enjoy it.

We're lucky to call southern Tasmania home, and even luckier that our work takes us all over it 🫶

One week we might be in Kingston and Blackmans Bay, the next we're heading down to Huonville and Geeveston, out to New Norfolk, or across to Bruny Island.

Wherever you are in Hobart or the greater Hobart area, we'd love to hear from you - whether it's a small job around the house or something a bit bigger, get in touch for a quote on your electrical projects.

Battery electric vehicles outsold petrol-only cars in Australia for the first time in August 2026 (Carsales), so more EVs are on the road, and chargers are seeing more daily use than ever. We're seeing more and more EV installs across Hobart, so if you're noticing any of the following with your charger, it might be worth a service.

A few signs yours needs a service:

- Trouble starting a charging session
- Visible damage to the cable or unit
- Frequent error messages
- Charging speed has dropped

Annual professional inspections catch wear and tear before it becomes a bigger problem, and if you want to learn more we've got our dedicated blog post at

May 10, 2024 - Reveal the essential benefits of regular maintenance and professional inspections for your EV charger, including identifying common issues early and maintaining safety.

After a long Tasmanian winter of keeping the house warm, most heat pumps are due a bit of attention. Over the colder months, dust and debris slowly build up on the filters and coils, and when that happens the unit has to work a little harder to do the same job. You might not notice it straight away, but it adds up over time.

Spring is a good time to get on top of it. A clean and check now means your system is in good shape before the warmer weather arrives and you start using it to cool the house instead.

If it's been a while since your heat pump had a proper once-over, we're always happy to take a look. We service and maintain heat pumps across Hobart and surrounding areas, and we'll let you know plainly if anything needs attention.
