My ‘main’ career has always been Marketing. I started out over 25 years ago when Marketing was, let’s be honest, the crayon
department. As I climbed the corporate ladder I moved further away from the creative side of Marketing. Just as things were getting really interesting too – digital, socials, data, personalisation, automation…
So, 15 years ago (probably 30 if I count every space I’ve decorated since moving into share houses at Uni through to rentals and first properties) I turned my attention to interiors as an alternative creative outlet. It started with renovating and flipping my own properties, to helping countless family members and friends. Then came COVID – which for Melbournians was brutal. We had two years of lock-downs and after working from home full-time with three children, I called time on my corporate job and took a ‘break.’ Or that was the plan. A few weeks in, I noticed an undeniable trend on my socials. After two years of looking at the same four walls, Melbournians were DESPERATE to change their spaces. The same themes were playing out. “I have no idea where to start” Or “I like this item but I don’t know what else to put with it.” Or “I look online or go into stores and feel overwhelmed.”
I saw a gap in the market that spoke to my genuine passion for interiors, which led to the launch of Shoestring Designs 1.0 And it was hugely successful. But… after 12 months corporate came calling again, so for the last four years’ I downed tools. That was, until August this year when one of my beautiful clients from 2021 reached out to ask if I could help her. That one little space soon turned into 12 (Armstrong Creek!) and a reignition of my love of interiors. So, within weeks I had quit corporate again – for good – and relaunched Shoestring Designs. 2.0 in November 2025. And here we are today. My business model and promise hasn’t changed. Shoestring Designs will continue to disrupt the design market. Because of my firm belief that every house can be a home, whatever your budget! And how do we do it?
