School holidays can go one of two ways at Plumbstruct...

Option 1: Fill the skip.

Option 2: Accidentally show an interest in how something works and find yourself being taught a trade. 😆

Luca's mate Cooper started the day helping with site clean-up, but after asking a few questions about what was happening, Shane decided it was time for a plastering lesson.

One thing we've always believed is that skills are meant to be shared. Whether someone ends up becoming a tradie or not, learning how things are built, repaired and maintained is valuable knowledge.

Besides, if you can patch a wall, you'll save yourself a fortune when you move out of home. 😉

By the end of the day, Cooper had learned a few new skills, Shane had found someone else to help with the work, and the skip still needed filling anyway.

That's what we call a successful day on site. 👌

From dark and weathered to bright and usable ✨

This new Laserlite roof has completely transformed our client’s balcony area, creating a space that still feels open and full of natural light while offering protection from the weather.

A good outdoor roof doesn’t just keep the rain out — it can turn an area you rarely use into one of the best spots in the house for morning coffees, family dinners or simply sitting outside without worrying about Melbourne’s four-seasons-in-one-day weather ☀️🌧️

Sometimes a relatively simple upgrade can make a huge difference to how a home feels and functions.

Trust the process. 👌

This reeded glass sliding door is one of those features that doesn't look like much while it's being installed... but wait until the room comes together.

The team from Moreland Glass have been busy fitting this beautiful reeded glass door between the bathroom and shower room. It allows light to flow between the spaces while still providing privacy, making the entire room feel brighter and more spacious.

It's a small detail that will have a huge impact on the finished result.

We love collaborating with other local trades who share our obsession with quality and attention to detail.

Now comes the hard part... waiting to see it all finished. 😍

Throwback to the Christmas rush... 🎄🎨

You know it's getting close to Christmas when everyone in the company suddenly acquires new job descriptions.

This particular evening saw Lara getting roped into painting a door in the factory because apparently "all hands on deck" includes the office staff. 😆

One minute you're answering emails and chasing invoices. The next you're standing in the factory with a paintbrush wondering how your life choices led you here.

The reality of a small family business is that everyone pitches in wherever they're needed. Quotes, phones, payroll, painting doors... it's all part of the adventure.

Would Shane have painted it himself if left unsupervised? Probably.

Would it have been as neat? The jury is still out. 😂

Tradie mystery #487...

Is finding a screw in your tyre a hazard of the job?

Absolutely.

But here's the thing...

Why is it never one of the screws we actually use?

We've got tubs of roofing screws, timber screws, batten screws, bugle screws, self-drillers, hex heads and enough assorted fixings to open our own hardware store.

Yet somehow the tyre always gets punctured by a random screw that nobody has ever seen before and definitely doesn't belong to anyone on site.

The good news? Shane spotted it before it became a bigger problem.

The even better news? Shane can fix just about anything... including tyres. 🔧😂

Builder. ✔️
Plumber. ✔️
Waterproofer. ✔️
Carpenter. ✔️
Tyre technician? Apparently also ✔️

At this point we're not entirely sure where the list ends.

One of the biggest mistakes we see in renovations is people focusing on the things they can see... and forgetting about the things they can't.

Take insulation, for example.

Most people expect insulation in the ceiling, but quality insulation in the walls can make a huge difference to the comfort of your home too.

✔️ Helps keep your home warmer in winter
✔️ Helps keep your home cooler in summer
✔️ Reduces noise transfer between rooms
✔️ Makes bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces quieter and more comfortable
✔️ Can improve the overall energy efficiency of your home

In this project, we've insulated not only the ceiling but the walls as well, creating a home that's more comfortable to live in long after the paint has dried and the furniture has been moved back in.

It's not the glamorous part of a renovation.
Nobody posts photos of their insulation on Pinterest.

But years from now, when you're sitting comfortably inside while it's freezing or scorching outside, you'll be glad it's there.

Sometimes the best parts of a renovation are the parts you'll never see. 🏠✨

🤣🤣🤣

How many black Sharpies does Shane need?

Apparently 24 isn't enough.

But 25? Well now we're talking.

Not because he needed another black Sharpie... but because this packet came with a BONUS BLUE ONE. 💙

This is the same man who will spend three hours researching a specialist part from interstate, drive across Melbourne to save $4 on a fitting, and somehow convince himself that buying 25 Sharpies was the most economical way to get a blue marker.

Could he have just bought a blue Sharpie?

Yes.

Did he?

Absolutely not.

"Everyone loves the finished result, but very few people get excited about the engineering drawings, steel beams, scaffolding, mud, dust and hundreds of decisions that happen beforehand. 😅

Adding a second storey isn't just building upwards. It's carefully transforming a family's home while making sure everything underneath continues to do its job.

This is what months of planning and craftsmanship looks like condensed into a few seconds. And honestly? We never get tired of watching it come together." 🏡❤️🔨

A new bifold servery window is going in here, but first we need to carefully remove the existing tiles surrounding the old kitchen window.

Rather than smashing them off and hoping for the best, the boys are taking their time, removing each tile individually so they can be reinstalled once the new window is in place.

It's meticulous work, but it means the finished result will look like the servery window has always belonged there.

You'll also hear the vacuum running while they work. Renovations can be messy, but we're always looking for ways to minimise dust and disruption inside our clients' homes.

Sometimes the most important part of a renovation isn't what you're adding—it's protecting what's already there.

Now excuse us while we play a giant game of tile Jenga. 😅

We take quality control very seriously at Plumbstruct Industries…

Unfortunately site supervisor Gus got a little too enthusiastic and decided to inspect the concrete before it was dry 🐾😂

In his defence, he was probably checking the finish, the consistency and whether it met Australian Standards.

Either that or he saw a bird. Hard to say.
