Here I have some photos of tone wood I will use for a Tenor Ukulele.
You may find these photos really uninteresting ! However as previously stated the wood is in its almost raw state being a medium to course sawn surface.
Underneath this sawn surface lives a very attractive figure grain , and once applied with my finishes brings even more grain out that what I call " jumps ".
Photos show the ' book-matched ' top and back sets , also the ' one-piece ' neck in it's very early stage.

It's going to be an interesting near future ! As I have announced settling in to another house and establishing a refurbished workshop, I will be introducing some new instruments to my list. I am leaving it as a surprise but at least one build will be Spanish/Philippine/Brazilian. That's the hint !

Sorry to everyone who follows Southern Slide Guitars , genuinely ! I have had health issues on going for about 4 months now. This has prevented me from completing the set up of my workshop at my new residence.
It's a horrible feeling of uselessness when you want and need to ' get on with things ' . Health is something we ALL take for granted and continue each day expecting to be just fine ! Cool , positive thinking. However complacency for good health is not .
Spare a thought for all the people that really want to get into something important in their lives, but can't because of I'll health . It can provide a feeling of worthlessness, if you allow it inside your head .
My message is be grateful for every day you are given with good health, allowing you to do what you choose. It's something that some people never get !

Hi to Southern Slide Guitars friends and followers. I must immensely apologize for the lack of posts and updates to you all. I have been extremely busy with building a new workshop and 19 meter carport and outside covered area for special tasks. Almost complete with the carport and well and truly onto planning the workshop. There maybe a second new workshop to come !
Unfortunately I have been put on hold personally as I have injured my back doing something very simple and common. Bulged discs and stenosis take time to reduce in inflammation, but I am on the improve list .
I have lots of ideas and plans for to build special instruments so please give me a little more time to recover. I hope you are all well and ' let the music keep our spirits high ' !

Hi everyone that likes Southern Slide Guitars and apologies to you for no posting in such a long time. I have relocated to another house in another area and in the midst of setting up things for a hole new workshop and layout. I first have to build a 19 meter carport/ pergola which is under way now. Then build another workshop adjacent to the existing shop and clad the walls and under roof with refrigeration panels for acoustic quietness and thermal control. I have all my tone wood stacked safely inside for protection. It's a massive project but I am highly motivated to finish this to get back to what I love doing, building instruments. Forgiveness please.

I thought this maybe of some interest as this is a bar cabinet I made for my IGA store owner , here in Knoxfield . The top is Victorian Ash and the panelled boards ( secret-nailed ) are Messmate , both have Japanese Black stain and clear over as the finish . As many years ago amazingly , Messmate was thought of as a ' D Grade ' species ! I can honestly tell you , my photos do not do anywhere near enough justice to this beautiful timber . It has so much character , yours eyes are gravitated to it for minutes . Well , I hope you like it as much as I do and enjoyed making it !

Well I have been a very busy little boy for the last month . However , I finally have got my stock of tonewood I need pus more !
I was able to some amazingly pretty sets . Some with some figure and some with high figure which I will select to be put in complete sets appropriately .
I won't make any announcements yet of what it is until I have something to look at for you . But I can assure you I am so excited about this stock , I just want to let the housework go ! But I won't haha

Many thanks to ALL the very kind people who have taken their time out to look into and ' Like ' me . It is without any doubt what we all need from time to time, some encouragement and just the thought that people are out there supporting me and others . Although I must say , I will never stop doing this because of so much passion inside me. Cheers to all !
