Pixie Fitzgerald was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Germ Cell Cancer in November 2011. After an extraordinary battle that included varied chemotherapies, surgeries to remove tumours and transfusions, Pixie passed away on the 13th February 2013 at just six years of age. r Geelong, Victoria, Australia, where they have emus and horses and grow organic garlic. The severity of the cancer has meant that Pixie spent much of the time transferring between Geelong Hospital and the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne. When there her parents and sister stayed at Ronald McDonald House to be with her, while her brother stays with a family friend so he could continue going to school. Through our fundraiser and with the amazing support of builders Signature Homes Geelong and kind and generous donations from their suppliers and tradespeople we managed to built a renovation to the family home. Intended to provide Pixie with a hospital grade bedroom and bathroom, so she could come home more often, and a playroom for her and her brother and sister to have fun and find escape from the harsh reality of this battle. Sadly, yet beautifully the room was completed just days before her passing and she spent just one lucid night in her beautiful room before slipping into her final sleep.
