If you've ever driven the Great Ocean Road, chances are you've made the detour to Split Point Lighthouse at Aireys Inlet. And if you visited over the Christmas break, you would have walked right over our work to get there.
Federal Street is the shared zone where locals' cars and lighthouse-bound tourists all share the same stretch of road. Surf Coast Shire Council called us in to reinstate the traffic calming treatment that had worn away. But when we did our site visit, we could see the surface needed more than a fresh coat of colour. Cracking and deterioration meant we needed to sort the whole road.
So we gave it the full treatment: cleaned the entire road, crack sealed the defects, laid down ~1,500 m² of solar reflective DuraShield to extend the pavement life and keep surface temps down, then reinstated ~600 m² of StreetBond 150 traffic calming treatment in that unmissable earthy sweep down the length of the road.
The result is a road that not only looks the part for one of the Great Ocean Road's most-visited spots, but is now properly protected and clearly communicates to all that this is a shared space.
If you want to extend the life of your roads, combat the urban heat island effect or transform a road into a pedestrian friendly space, get in touch at [email protected] and see how we can help.
