Quite certain that both of us experienced a level of surprise this particular morning.

The client ( also relatively surprised themselves ) had called me in to remove this dead tree in their rear yard.

Unfortunately ( for me ) upon pre climb inspection, I hadn't noticed the hollow as it was covered well over by the upper canopy of the Liquidambar branches.

Ascending up the tree I suddenly felt something that briefly attached to fingers before instantly pulling my hand back. ( lucky for gloves )

Sure enough, after the suprise of the sound and vibrations of a chainsaw, this Possum was understandably course, not too particularly impressed with me.

After our encounter with one another, I ( and also on behalf of Possum ) spoke with the client about the prospect of removing only the upper limbs and branches above the tree, so as to leave the trunk standing with hollow ( Possum Home ) intact.

Thankfully all parties were in agreement and we managed to have at least one less Possum searching for a new home in someone's roof.

Befores & Afters:

Pruning and Deadwooding of these Evergreen Alders to allow more light and lessen the amount of leaf litter in the gutters.

Nice view of a Misty Kanimbla Valley below too!

Height reduction and trimming of this Pittosporum hedge.

Looking forward to seeing it thicken up in time to form a tidy screen once again.

Operation Fishpond / Trim Hedge

Always great to return to hedges worked on previously.

This one is fast becoming an enjoyable challenge as I work to minimise the amount of leaves from falling into the fish pond below and, in making the cleaning of the courtyard easy breezy!

Some trees just make you go....( silent in awe )

• Lifting of the Canopy, but maintain its shape.

• Removal of Deadwood, but leave the bee hive!

• Weight reduce Limbs, foliage thinned on branches.

One Gorgeous Peppercorn Tree.

On its own, in the right spot, ready to enjoy in new light.

Rewarding last day of the year in being able to leave something to come back to in the new year.....a habitat stag!

Looking forward to the next stage of this project in speeding things up a little, by carving some hollows for potential nesting sites for birds and possible homes for possums & microbats.

This Acacia mearnsii (Black Wattle) had too much character in its trunk to simply turn into more firewood.

Instead, this client can now remember their tree as it takes the form of two benches in the garden.

Was a pleasure in taking the extra time shaping & sanding. Now all it needs is an oil to help make them last.

For those that know Cascade Street in Katoomba well, you would know that it's certainly not the easiest to travel along, especially in the Wet

Needless to say, I definitely enjoyed the challenge working the steep banks whilst taming this beast.

By using specialised equipment, no hedge taming is out of reach and without a clean finish.

Despite making a great hedge, this Prunus lauracerasus (Cherry Laurel) is on the Blue Mountains w**d list, so it was perfect timing to give it a trim to take off next seasons seed/fruit growth (see last slide)
