Getting painting quotes? Ask these five questions first.Most homeowners get three quotes. Prices range from $4,500 to $14,000 for the same house. Why the gap? Because not all quotes cover the same work.

Here's what to ask before you hire anyone:
❶ What's included?
Walls only? Ceilings? Doors and trims? Skirting boards? A cheap quote often excludes half the job. Get it in writing.

❷ How do you prepare surfaces?
Prep is 90% of a good paint job. Ask about filling holes, sanding, cleaning, and priming. If they skip this, the paint won't last.

❸ What paint brands do you use?
