G'day Gardener's π Gardener's understanding Gall Wasp is the first step towards management and Ohhh boy there is some misunderstanding out there.
So why do we need to destroyed Galls? Firstly this is only true of galls removed after the end of June and even then I believe the end of July is a more realistic date....So why? Wasps can and will hatch up to 60 days after removal from a tree, this is why we burn, freeze, microwave, bury, chop, slice, boil, bag, double bag, triple bag, tarp up and every other crazy online garden forum method of destruction you may come across to eliminate that emergence.
Citrus Guy....there must be a better wayπ€ Gardener's...Yes....Yes there is. This is possibly the single most important piece of information to be shared and shared and shared. All Galls removed before the end of June can be disposed of as you would treat any other green waste. No need for crazy methods of disposal and even better, the sooner you remove them, the sooner you get fresh growth.
I highly recommend weekly checks and removal of all suspect limbs from February onwards, as young galls are easy to spot long before they are ready to hatch. Doing this simple task will ensure that you don't have a huge problem on your hands at the end of Winter and Gardener's...... it's called Gardeningπ
