Bringing nature into early learning spaces does more than brighten a room, it actively supports children’s development, wellbeing, and curiosity.
A vertical garden can enhance learning environments in line with the National Quality Standard (NQS), particularly across:
Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice: Encourages hands-on learning experiences. Children can explore plant growth, sustainability, and healthy eating while educators integrate STEM, literacy, and wellbeing programs.
Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health and Safety: Improves air quality and creates a calm, natural atmosphere. Growing herbs or vegetables supports nutrition education and healthy habits in a safe, child-friendly environment.

Quality Area 3 – Physical Environment: Creates a sustainable, sensory-rich space that maximises learning in limited areas, fosters environmental responsibility, and strengthens connections to nature.
By introducing greenery indoors, early learning centres can nurture curiosity, encourage sustainable practices, and support children’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing all while meeting the NQS standards.
