Extremely honoured to receive two Heritage Awards for our restoration project Mulberry Cottage, alongside our determined and passionate clients, Suzie and Sally.
Originally built in the 1850s, Mulberry Cottage was purchased in 2016 as a dilapidated ruin. Today it stands proudly restored through conservation, restoration and adaptive reuse as a historical farming rural complex. With determination, love for heritage and grit the owners, A-HA Design Studio and Maxwell Built have worked hard to preserve and restore the bluestone homestead, cellar, barn/stable, outhouse, beehive domed well, retain significant trees including the original old Mulberry Tree and complete extensive landscape works.
Mulberry Cottage was formerly known as the cottage at “Wattaburrie” (also known as Wattaberri) and is situated on the land of the Ngarrindjeri/Ramindjeri people.
Congratulations too to all the other entrants and winners, it was humbling to be among so many quality heritage projects and passionate people doing impressive things.
And thank you to Keryn who shared detailed historical knowledge of Mulberry cottage as well as her own rich personal experiences of the homestead.
