💧 Another drainage problem solved today.

A sump pit and sump pump were installed to stop this homeowner’s laundry from flooding during heavy rain. The system collects excess stormwater and pumps it directly into the property’s stormwater system via the downpipe, ensuring the water is removed from the property completely rather than simply being diverted elsewhere.

Tuesday Tips with Tommo 🌳 💩

Before you start landscaping, planting hedges or lining up pot plants around your home - make sure you know where your stormwater and sewer pipes are located first…

I recently attended a job where pot plants had been placed right along the sewer line. Unfortunately the roots and added pressure caused a blockage… and let’s just say the end result wasn’t pretty with sewerage backing up.

A little planning now can save you a massive headache later:

- Keep sewer inspection openings accessible
- Avoid large plants or heavy pots over pipework
- Be cautious planting anything with invasive roots
- If you’re unsure, ask your plumber before landscaping

Big Mother’s Day shoutout to Holly - the reason Grizzly Plumbing exists. 💙🐻

Stormwater playing up? Here’s a quick way to check it before it turns into a bigger issue…

First, do a quick visual check, look for any obvious blockages in your grates or downpipes 👀

Then try this:

Hose down your downpipe + a bit of food dye. If it’s not flowing through properly - you’ve likely got a blockage.

If you think you’ve got an issue, call me before it gets real grizzly. 🐻

Tuesday Tips with Tommo (and Ted) ☔️ 🐾

We’re talking rainwater tanks and pumps and the simple things you should be checking to keep everything running properly.

If your pump is kicking on and off constantly, that’s usually a red flag. It could be a leak, pressure issue, or a faulty check valve and left unchecked, it can burn your pump out.

Also make sure:
✔️ No leaves or debris blocking the tank inlet or gutters
✔️ Overflow pipes are clear
✔️ The pump is primed correctly
✔️ No visible leaks around fittings or pipework

Your rainwater system should run smoothly and consistently - not every five minutes.

Yesterday was one of those jobs.

Called out to a water leak coming from underneath the car park of a commercial complex. After a fair bit of digging, I found and fixed the first leak. Turned the water back on… and quickly realised that wasn’t the end of it. In total, this complex had three separate water leaks that all needed tracking down and repairing.

As the day ran into night, a huge shout out to John L. Fisher Plumbing Supplies for sorting materials at 4:55pm on a Friday when no other plumbing shop in town was open, and to Dean Hurrell for helping coordinate - absolute lifesavers.

And the biggest shout out goes to my wife. From Bunnings runs for sand in her swimmers after the pool with the kids, to backfilling the hole, racing around to find me painkillers for a bad back, and coordinating materials when my brain couldn’t think, she stayed right through until we finally clocked off at 9pm. She now reckons she’s officially started her plumbing apprenticeship 😂🔧

Jobs like this aren’t always quick or neat, but they get done properly.
