This project was part precision cutting, part creative collaboration and involved one very big rock!

Our team recently headed to Maleny to wire saw through the full diameter of a 86-tonne rock for renowned Australian sculptor and “Australia’s Creative Cowboy”, Chris McKenzie.

Chris is transforming the rock into a large public sculpture for council, and needed our help to prepare the stone for its next chapter.

It was the first time our wire saw had been used for a project quite like this, demonstrating the versatility and precision of the equipment on an extraordinary scale. A representative from Tyrolit also joined us on site to see it in action.

We’re proud to have played a part in bringing Chris’s vision to life and can’t wait to see the finished sculpture.

Office for the day: sand underfoot, surf in the background. 🌊

This is core drilling, coastal style. The boys had the rig set up right on the beachfront, drilling clean through concrete with the water just metres away.

It's not the easiest spot to work, but that's half the fun. Whether it's a job like this or a straightforward drill back at the house, the crew sorts it across the Sunshine Coast.

There's a smart way to take out heavy concrete, and a messy way. 💪

Saw it into clean sections first, then break it out in a controlled way, no shrapnel flying, no damage to what's staying, and a tidy site at the end. It's slower to set up, but it's how you do a big removal properly.
