On a frosty Blue Mountains morning, most people head indoors.

But artist Lesley Kinney heads to her garden.

For the past eight years, her cedar-clad Melwood art studio has been the place where her signature Australian landscapes have come to life on canvas.

It's made possible by thoughtful design – from the natural insulating properties of cedar cladding to carefully positioned glazing that captures the winter sun.

“In winter, on a sunny day, it is warm enough to paint if the doors are closed as the doors act like a solarium,” Lesley confirms.
