Earlier this year, severe weather caused landslips across the North Island of New Zealand, closing state highways and cutting off communities.
A Sunday call from Stellar Project Management to David Swan, Geovert's New Zealand Operations Manager, requested a team on site the following morning. David briefed team leader Ikanui Enoka, who had a crew on site within five hours, a site inspection completed that evening and work underway by Monday morning. That initial mobilisation was the start of weeks of emergency response across three highways - SH2, SH35 and SH3.
The initial geotechnical risk assessment work carried out was the foundation of every subsequent decision - what to remove, what to leave and in what order - which then determined whether the road reopened or not.
On SH2, the work extended beyond emergency scaling into the design and installation of a drape mesh system with Beca and NZTA, delivered from concept to completion in three weeks.
Stellar's Richard Dodera spoke about Geovert’s response: "Their proactive, collaborative approach and ability to adapt to evolving site conditions contributed to the safe and efficient delivery of stabilisation works and the restoration of these critical transport corridors."
The speed of the response was possible because of the relationships with clients and partners built over 25 years in natural hazard mitigation, combined with the knowledge that Geovert has available the skills and experience needed for this work.
