I couldn't agree more David. Business's like mine ( G&K Power Electrical Contractors) are dependant on local business's such as The Chalet Guesthouse for our income, so not only is there a direct impact on the tourism industry but it flows onto the support business's like trades who help the more prominent shops, restaurants and guest house stay functioning. Consequently I support local wholesalers, mechanics, shops, hardwares, suppliers etc.
We all need support in someway or another but don't necessarily qualify for direct support from government funding as we were not all directly affected by the fires. All we ask for is business as usual to survive.
So if you can visit our beautiful area for a day, weekend or even longer your input will go along way to supporting and rebuilding our community.
Thank you. Greg Power.

For what it's worth I shall share what I have done around my house in preparation that we get caught and cannot leave. Our plan is to leave as the house can be rebuilt but thought this might help others with some ideas that might make saving a house easier.
Ensure that we are insured
Double check that we are insured
Have all non replaceable items papers wills photos back up of business packed ready.
Have a second back up of business off site
Have a third back up business in the cloud
Pack clothes toiletries etc ( as if we are going away for a week end)
Have built a protected room (usually used as a wine cellar) half under ground down under the house
Have a survival pack fresh water food first aid torches masks googles overalls etc in it
Cleared vegetation around the house as much as possible
Have a 4000 litre water tank full
Have a petrol fire fighting pump tuned ready to go
Have a ember protective cover over pump so it can run with cover on
Have commercial fire hose reel mounted to the pump
Have 2 spare large fire house for if this melts located in doors until fire front clears
Have 3 ordinary garden hoses connected ready for first attack spot fires
Have battery operated shutters on doors and windows
Filled every sink bucket container possible
Strategically placed them in various locations in and out side of the house
Have filled plastic garbage bags to put on verandah above areas I want to keep wet ie pump underneath.
Wet towels below all widows and doors and garage roller door
Have petrol jerry cans, gas bottles and any flammable stuff in heavy duty metal lock up box under house
Roof attic ladder open with several garden pump packs full of water plus fire extinguishers ready to put out roof fires
Several fire extinguishers strategically located around the house garage workshop etc
Reversed car in garage ready to leave quickly without having to reverse out of driveway
Have generator filled ready with spare fuel securely contained ready for days without power
Move outdoor furniture, door mats, bikes etc indoors
Move furniture away from windows
Windows taped up for securing exploding glass
Have spare torches located around
Built in emergency lights ( I am an electrician don't forget)
Charged all iPhones iPods iPads all loaded with the free torch app if we need to use them as a torch
Turned gas off at mains/ meter
Blocked gutters and filled with water
Blocked all under floor vents with metal fly screen wire to protect against ember attack
Placed ladders in various locations to get onto roof if needed
Have tv locked onto ABC 24 news
Have radio app on iPhone on ABC radio
Checking RFS web site regularly for updates
Checking neighbours and friends plans and whether they are home or not
Monitoring the local conditions winds temperature weather maps and keeping a watch on things.
Have the rabbit on notice ready to go with food and water.
There is probably more but theses are the main things.
Again this is all a back up plan. Our first option is to evacuate.
I hope we don't need any of this or anyone else but it does help to be prepared. I suppose this is from being a boy scout as a child. It might be over the top but I have completed this stuff over the years most without huge expense and some if it is also useful in day to day life.
Hope this helps and good luck to everyone.
Stay safe.

It's been a busy week. Here's a picture of a house we were able to get power onto. Gives you some idea of what's left of their front yard. Not much. This house was saved by the galant effort of the owner with a tank of water and a fire fighting pump. He had town water pressure but his water meter melted. Hence no water. A buffer zone of no vegetation around this house also helped.

Another day in the fire damaged areas of Winmalee restoring power back to people who still have their homes. Hearing some amazing, scary and heroic stories. The consistent theme is it came so fast without warning. These are the lucky ones who still have a home to live in. Some feeling guilty that they couldn't save their neighbours homes but all are grateful for what they have. Spirits are still high and the support very appreciated. Had to dash home as the fires came close this arvo. Almost evacuated but the weather calmed down. All good here tonight so far. Thanks everyone.

I spent my Sunday gladly helping my fellow community sorting out electrical faults before Endeavour Energy (who are doing a fantastic job) can restore power in Winmalee, Yellow Rock and Springwood. My payment today was in hugs and hand shakes and the satisfaction of helping where I can. My thoughts and best wishes go out to all who have suffered in one way or another in these devastating fires. I'm proud to be part of such a caring community.

I would like to publicly thank Mark and Hugh, two valued employees for their hard work, dedication, commitment and support over the years. They have both moved on to new futures and we part on good terms. Kellie and I and the remaining staff of G & K Power wish them nothing but the best for their futures. They were great to work with and I know they will be appreciated at their new workplaces. I regularly received comments from our customers on how well mannered and polite those young men were. I'm sure our regular customers who you have created a working, trustworthy relationship with will miss you also.
All the best guys, you deserve it and thanks again for everything.
Greg Power.
