The concept from the outset was to present a monochromatic space, directly reflecting the original Harry Seidler MLC building exterior, and a direct contrast to the wonderful rainbow of gelato colours, chocolates, cakes and packaging of the Messina brand.

Inspiration for the lighting pays direct homage to the Marcel Breuer Madison Ave NY Whitney Museum of American Art (recently MET). The desire was not to present an open grid of hung fittings, but rather to integrate the fittings directly into the ceiling. In this case we designed a concave, shadow-lined, cast plaster fitting that could be fixed to the ceiling much like a traditional ceiling rose, with a very small ceramic batten holder and gold top globe.
Internal columns and front of servery counter, were quartz rendered to match the exterior rendered finish of the Seidler building.

There are still a few additional items to be fixed off in the space, such as white powdercoated steel display shelves and some customer furniture but we hope you get to check it out soon.

Feature pendant lights in the Private Dining Room were hand made by Yael Grinham using thousands of slices of fabric per fitting. Stunningly beautiful feature lights.

A year ago we started designing for .... today we snapped a few photos (professional shots still to come) as our labour of love is almost complete. Huge thanks to .farah .moubadder for believing in our architectural concept and our abilities to bring this restaurant to life.
