Started as a standard 3 phase upgrade. New overhead service, new underground consumer mains run internally through the existing steel private pole, full meter box upgrade and meter exchange.

Then right at the end of the job, the private pole snapped from rust.

No shortcuts, no patch jobs. We came back the next day, replaced the faulty steel private pole and finished the project properly.

Big lesson from this one. Never assume a pole is safe to climb just because it looks fine from the outside. Take the extra time to properly inspect and test anything you’re trusting your life to.

Sometimes the job teaches you something too.

An overhead low voltage service at this home was defected by Ausgrid after it was found to be sitting just 5 centimetres off the homeowner’s metal carport. That clearance is extremely dangerous, and it is a good example of why these defects need to be taken seriously and rectified properly.

In this job, we relocated the overhead service to a riser bracket to achieve a safer and compliant outcome for the property. This not only removed the immediate risk, but also gave the homeowner peace of mind knowing the service was no longer sitting dangerously close to a metal structure.

At Masters Power Solutions, we carry out Level 2 ASP work across the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and the Hunter. This overhead service on a shared driveway was sitting at only about 2.4m above ground in multiple accessible spots. Dangerous, non compliant, and an accident waiting to happen.

We installed a new private pole and lifted the overheads to an appropriate height above ground, well above the required clearance and far safer for everyone using the driveway.

Correct height clearances on overhead services matter because low cables can be struck by vehicles, contacted by ladders or equipment, and create a serious risk to anyone passing underneath. Safe clearances are there for a reason.

Permanent disconnection completed for 3 separately metered units supplied from 1 overhead service.

This is not as simple as just turning the power off. A permanent disconnection means the supply is being formally removed from the network, which is why correct lodgement and notification matter. It ensures Ausgrid, the retailer, and the relevant parties know the property has been disconnected, the metering is dealt with correctly, and there is a clear record that the premises is no longer connected to supply.

Done properly, it helps avoid confusion, prevents accidental re energisation, and makes sure any future reconnection is handled the right way.

For this job, we permanently disconnected all 3 units from the existing overhead service and completed the process the correct way from both the network and compliance side.
