Not every trend deserves your money. Some are genuinely worth it, others will have you crying in three years. Here’s roughly how we sort them for clients.

Worth it: quality joinery, timber and natural materials, good glazing, a floor plan that suits how you live. These age gracefully and add real value. Skip or go easy on: anything super of-the-moment in a permanent finish, loud feature tiles across a whole wall, ultra-trendy colours baked into cabinetry you can’t easily swap.

The rule of thumb is simple. Spend on the bones and the finishes you’ll live with for decades. Keep the fashionable stuff to things you can change cheaply later.

Roofs are on out at Tarcutta.

The homestead has hit a big milestone this week with the roof sheeting locked in across all three sections. Seeing the lines come together against the hills out here is one of the better parts of the job.

This one’s been a proper acreage build from the start, designed to sit right in its setting rather than fight it. The gable through the middle opens the living zone up to the paddocks and the afternoon light, and the wraparound form gives the family room to spread out without losing the warmth of a home.

Next up is lock-up, then we move inside.

Handover day in Junee.

Today we handed over the keys to two new homes built for the Junee Catholic Parish. From contract signing with Ian and Father Paddy through to completion, it has been a smooth and rewarding build.

The duplex features two distinct homes on one block. One finished in grey and timber tones, the other in softer coastal colours. Both completed to the standard we stand behind on every project.

Our thanks to Father Paddy, Ian and the Parish for entrusting Raulston Family Homes with this project. It has been a pleasure to deliver it for the Junee community.

Frames and trusses are up at Tarcutta.

Feels like the slab only just went down, and now you can walk through it. Rooms have walls, the roofline’s on, and the shape of the homestead is finally there in three dimensions.

This is always a big moment on a custom build. It’s when the family we’re building for can stand in their kitchen, look out where the living room windows will be, and get a real sense of the home they’ve been picturing all year.

Today we’re wishing a very happy birthday to Troy.

To most people, Troy’s the builder. But behind the scenes there’s a lot more to the job than what happens on site. He’s the one doing the books, helping with the designs, returning calls, solving problems, paying the bills, mowing the lawn, getting breakfast sorted, managing projects, handovers all before the rest of us have had our first coffee. And when the work day ends, he goes home to being a dad of three.

A lot of that goes unnoticed. It’s not the part of the job anyone posts about. But we work alongside him every day, and we see it.

More than 20 years of building around and Junee, and he still gives every client and every home his full attention. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of the work no one sees.

Happy birthday, Troy. From all of us, thank you for being you mate!
