Verge Scalp 2026 - Part 1

I got excited yesterday and gave the lawn a scalp with zero planning. Didn't have enough space in the bin so I had to wait for the bin to be emptied before I carry on.

Thankfully that happened this morning so now I'm good to go again. I'll go a couple of notches lower, nothing crazy, I'm not going to vertimow it unless I get incredibly inspired.

And before you ask... yes I will do the edges, probably not very well but I will do them ✅️

If you've done a whoopsie and forgotten about your lawn over the cooler months than join the club 🤣

Our verge hasn't had much love and gets driven on daily so it's looking sadder than me on a Monday morning before work.

Luckily it is spring which is the ideal time to give the lawn the nutrients it needs to bounce back.

If you haven't run or checked your sprinklers for a while now is a pretty good time to give them a little test 💧💧

It's still relatively cool so if you do identify any issues you can sort them out before it gets properly hot and the lawn suffers.

Aim for 10-12mm of water over the lawn each time you run your sprinklers 👍

DON'T put granular fertiliser on your lawn... unless you want dark green colour and dense growth 👌

Just make sure to apply it evenly and water in straight after.

Tip: Fertilisers high in iron (Fe) promote a dark green colour 🌱🌱

Had a supervisor on site today while we were coring some lawns 🐕

Coring is a great way to give your lawn a boost 🌱🌱

✅️ Relieves compaction
✅️ Encourages root development
✅️ Allows more water, air and nutrients to get down to the root zone

If you've ever had the desire to pull some plugs out of your lawn, this is a great time of year to do it.

How often should you mow your lawn? As often as possible 👍

Sprayer calibration is a key part of liquid application, whether it be herbicide, insecticide, fungicide etc, the more accurate the application rate the better the product will work 👍

We often get asked how many ml of product to 5L of water, but for most lawn care products the important rate is the amount of product over the area (m2) of lawn rather than the water volume in the sprayer. This is where sprayer calibration is important and this guide may be helpful 🤞
