Recently I was fortunate enough to be a panel speaker at the Warwick screening of my role on this panel was to speak about my lived experience with suicidal ideation, depression and ptsd. To come through the mental health challenges that I have and to be grateful for them is something I am very thankful for. I am even more grateful for the opportunities I have had to share my story and my beliefs around mental health and how we all have the tools within ourselves to help our future selves every day. It is an extremely powerful movie and doesn’t hold back with the impact su***de has on families, communities and our kids.
When we don’t wait for there to be a problem and can learn to have vulnerable and hard conversations, it makes it easier when we aren’t going well. Check in with each other, not because you’re not going well, but because you might need to have a tough conversation one day and you’ll know exactly where to turn to.

We believe that regenerating landscapes cannot be done without regenerating ourselves along the way. The principles involved with landscape regeneration are absolutely relatable to personal regeneration. The trick is slowing down enough to think about the concepts and how we might be able to see the natural systems within ourselves. Like Dr Terry McCosker OAM said, “We are A PART OF nature not APART FROM IT.” So the more we can see ourselves within our systems, the more we are able to see things more clearly. Once we can see more clearlyt, we can start to implement other things into the system, like infrastructure, soil regeneration, grazing systems, livestock management, cover crops and pasture management and the list goes on. But the important thing is that we need to understand that we are a part of the system. Our mental health is not worth putting stressful systems in place then being stuck propping up broken systems instead of creating resilient ones from the start or taking the opportunity to reset. Your future self with thank you for it.

In an exciting new chapter, Elsom Grazing has been rebranded as Elsom Regenerative! There are a few reasons why we have done this, but most importantly it better reflects our services, ethos and ourselves. We believe that creating real connection starts with ourselves and that regenerating landscapes cannot be done without regenerating ourselves along the way.

From urban backyards to broad acre regeneration a d everything in between, our goal is to help you understand your landscape function better, enhance sustainable farming systems and create a framework for you to have a better connection to yourself and your landscape. We can work side by side with you and teach you how to use the tools you have available to build a system that works for you, or we can take the reins and manage entire projects for you. We have options for all budgets and skill sets.

We can also help to fill labour voids on a short, medium or long term basis. We can be the extra pair of hands in the yards, tailing weaners, or overseeing while you take a much needed break.

We also have remote options available.

On 26th October, a screening of Just a Farmer will be happening at the Warwick Twin Cinema. This movie shines a light on the silent struggles so many of us go through and also watch on as our loved ones endure the hidden pain of su***de and mental illness. The aim of the movie is to raise awareness and create healing conversations through storytelling.

As part of this free event, there will be a Q&A panel including Leila McDougall. Afternoon tea will be served and services available for anyone who needs to talk or doesn’t know how to find local services available for help in times of mental health crisis. I will also be a part of the Q&A panel, so feel free to ask any questions about my mental health or things that have helped me.

Philip Hughes, an amazing friend, mentor and farmer. I had the privilege of being a part of the Lachlan Hughes Foundation in 2024, and I cannot speak highly enough of everyone involved. To rely solely on donations, and give every bit of it to help others empower themselves and their communities, is powerful beyond words. Philip is captivating to listen to and can drop wisdom with each sentence, so make sure you’re paying attention! Today we said goodbye to Tippy. At nearly 14 years old, she was still as keen as ever to work. Her drive to work stock was strong but her heart was so gentle that everyone who ever met her was touched by her beautiful soul. Tippy taught me a lot and we shared so many memories together. She has been there through it all. Unwavering. Fires, floods, droughts, life. I’m sure glad we got to spend your life with the you. That’ll do, Tip. That’ll do. ❤️
