Adding solar and batteries? Your meter board might have to move first. ⚡
Before Ergon will connect a system like that, an old indoor board usually has to be upgraded and relocated to the front of the property. A lot of sparkies just bolt a small board alongside the old one to add safety switches — but that doesn't meet Ergon's relocation requirement.
Here the team's prepping the new switchboard the day before Ergon comes out, so the upgrade goes in clean. If your board looks like this, or you're just not sure, give us a call.

This is what a switchboard upgrade actually looks like behind the cover. ⚡
Out with the old board, and every cable landed fresh — earths and neutrals split onto their own bars, each circuit terminated clean onto its breaker, every terminal tightened to spec so nothing arcs or works loose down the track.

A lot of older Queenslanders around Townsville are still running on outdated switchboards ⚡
This week our team upgraded a switchboard in Aitkenvale, swapping out old fuses for modern safety switches.

Older homes often only have a safety switch on one circuit, if they have one at all, leaving power points and lighting unprotected.
Traditional Queenslanders are some of the worst offenders, many still running the original switchboard from when the house was built.
Even where a safety switch is fitted, the old ones can stop working properly over time, so testing matters as much as having them. If your switchboard still has ceramic fuses instead of switches, it's worth getting it checked.

Not all smoke alarms are built the same ⚡
We compared a premium alarm to a standard economy one recently, and the difference is stark.

Premium units use hand-soldered circuitry and far more components inside, built to last the full 10-year lifespan.
Economy units use fewer parts, which makes them prone to false triggers, especially from a humidity spike on a hot summer night.
QLD legislation requires around six interconnected alarms per home, so one false trigger sets off every alarm in the house at once. We get callbacks for this most weeks over summer, usually around 2am. If your alarms keep going off for no reason, it's worth asking what's actually inside them.
