Courtyard renovation: To address the lack of grass growth due to shade, pebbles and pavers matching existing landscape were added for cohesiveness and aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the garden bed was extended to cover the area where the grass was struggling. The next phase entails replanting the garden bed in an oriental style that embraces shade-loving plants.

Strongly sweetly fragrant, Rosa 'Blue Moon' is a ravishing Hybrid Tea rose with large silvery lavender blue blooms. You cannot go past the luminous beauty of Blue Moon.

Originally bred in Germany (Mainzer Fastnacht Rose) and introduced in 1964, Blue Moon has stood the test of time to emerge as a much beloved and timeless classic.

Hybrid Tea roses are hardy, vigorous, repeat flowering and disease resistant, very helpful for our humid Sydney climate, making them ideal plants to have in large pots or as hedges or borders.

A profusion of Viola Cornuta.

Viola cornuta looks like pansy. They actually belong to the same family, but the violet is much more hardy than the pansy is.

The petals is how you can distinguish pansies from viola cornuta.

-Viola cornuta has 2 petals facing upwards, and three facing downwards.

-Pansy has 4 petals facing upwards and only one facing down.

Blooming starts in March and continues up to the beginning of summer, and it resumes again in fall.

The viola cornuta that blooms in spring is perfect paired with tulips which also bloom at the same time!

Viola Cornuta is also a very popular edible flower. This flower has a sweet, perfumed flavour, with a taste that’s similar to lettuce. Add viola to salads for extra flavour and color, or crystallise and add to cake, desserts or iced drinks for decoration.

With its purple flowers, Paterson’s curse (Echium plantagineum) is one of the most conspicuous weeds of pastures, roadsides and disturbed land in Australia. It is supposedly named after the Paterson family of Cumberoona, New South Wales, who planted it in their garden in the 1880s.

Paterson’s curse is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean region. It is a classic ā€˜garden thug’ having been introduced to Australia via mail order gardening catalogues in the 1840s, then rapidly invading agricultural land.

Paterson’s curse now covers millions of hectares of land in Australia and is estimated to cost Australian sheep and cattle producers $250 million annually through lost productivity in pastures, control costs, and wool contamination.

It is highly competitive in pastures, replacing desirable plants without contributing to forage value. Paterson’s curse contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are toxic to livestock, causing liver damage.

Dogwood trees [(Cornus florida), an American native species, and the Japanese dogwood treeĀ (Cornus kousa)] are widely known for their delicate beauty, and it’s toughness that makes this species an excellent choice for home landscapes and urban areas. The tree also makes a visual contribution year-round. In spring, it produces a heavenly array of blooms. In summer, its intriguing canopy of layered branches provides shade and beauty. In autumn, it offers spectacular bright red color. Even in winter, this tree has an appeal all its own with bark that resembles a jigsaw puzzle.

The spring blooms are probably the tree’s largest selling point — and its most misunderstood. The ā€œpetalsā€ aren’t actually petals at all. They are modified leaves called bracts that surround the small, greenish-yellow, insignificant flowers.
