Conference pears are setting nicely already here on my allotment in North Yorkshire. The seasons seem to move quickly these days compared to yesteryear! Maybe I’m just getting old 🤣. Either way, it’s great to see 😁

I’m growing some lavender from seed. Pretty quick to germinate ( 2 weeks ) in standard temps. A great way to fill a bed for just a few price per plant. Thìs pot is purple but the colour doesn’t really show!

The early seed potato chitting is starting to come on apace now. Haven’t bothered with egg boxes or anything fancy. I’ve just put them on some staging. Good light and frost-free temps should do the job !

The frogs 🐸 have been busy! Nice and early uo here in Yorkshire. There should be more the come. Frogs can help so much with pest control such as with slugs and the resultant tadpoles encourage birds that further help with pests. All part of the fascinating ecosystem of our gardens and allotments. 😁

I like to leave the garlic outside in trays as it benefits from the cold. The recent snow a couple of days ago was no problem at all! 🤣. I’ll plant them outside on the plot in March to supplement the ones from November that were planted directly in well drained soil. Options are always good in gardening for comparison purposes! 😀

Something a little different and certainly unconventional! I’ve started some early Broad beans ‘The Sutton’ in a shallow window box! They have germinated well and developed a good root due to the depth of the box. I sowed them in mid-December. I’m now going to transplant them into their final growing positions.

Exciting times ahead! It was great to see new season seed potatoes in the garden centres yesterday. A great boost during this rather grey spell of weather in Yorkshire 🌸
