🦹🏻‍♂️ Today’s surprise behind the bins… 🗑️🐍
First time mow at this property and found this bloke having a nap behind the bins 😴
Turns out he’s just a non-venomous carpet python doing pest control duty 🐭❌
Zoom in to see his face 👀😂
He was left alone to finish his snooze and moved on in his own time.
Lawn still got done ✅

How to Naturally Slow Down Clover in Your Lawn This Winter
Is your lawn being overrun by clover this winter?

Don’t worry—there are effective, natural ways to manage it without resorting to harsh chemicals or sprays. At Purple Hornet Mowing, we’re committed to helping you maintain a healthy, beautiful lawn all year round. Here’s how you can slow down clover growth and give your grass the upper hand.

1. Boost Your Soil's Fertility
Clover loves nitrogen-poor soil, which is why it often takes over during the winter. By increasing your soil’s nitrogen levels, you can give your grass a fighting chance.

Fertilize with Nitrogen: Applying an organic, slow-release nitrogen fertilizer is a great way to help your grass grow stronger and outcompete the clover.
Top dress with Compost: A thin layer of compost will improve your soil's overall health and naturally increase nitrogen levels, discouraging clover growth.

2. Aerate Your Lawn
Compacted soil can prevent your grass from getting the water, air, and nutrients it needs to thrive, allowing clover to take over.

Aerate Regularly: By aerating your lawn, you’ll reduce soil compaction and help your grass develop deeper roots, making it harder for clover to spread.

3. Mow Your Lawn Higher
Clover has a low growth habit, so keeping your grass a bit longer can actually help suppress it.

Raise Your Mower Height: Set your mower to a higher setting (around 3-4 inches) to shade out the clover and prevent it from getting the sunlight it needs to grow.
4. Overseed for a Denser Lawn
A thick, healthy lawn is your best defense against clover.

Overseed in Early Spring: As winter comes to an end, overseed your lawn with a grass variety that thrives in our climate. A dense lawn will naturally crowd out clover and other w**ds.

5. Remove Clover Manually
For smaller patches of clover, a bit of elbow grease can go a long way.

Hand Pulling: Pull clover by hand, making sure to get as much of the root as possible to prevent regrowth. It’s a simple yet effective way to keep clover at bay.

6. Mulch Bare Spots
Clover loves to invade bare spots in your lawn, so covering these areas is key.

Apply Mulch: After removing clover or if you have thin grass, apply mulch to these spots to block sunlight and prevent clover from taking hold again.

7. Water Wisely
Your watering habits can also make a big difference in controlling clover.

Deep and Infrequent Watering: Clover is more drought-tolerant than many grasses. Water deeply but less frequently to encourage deep root growth in your grass, making it tougher for clover to thrive.

By following these natural lawn care practices, you can keep clover under control and ensure your lawn stays lush and green throughout the winter months. If you need help with lawn care, aeration, or overseeding, Purple Hornet Mowing is here to help!

Why do we have onion w**d popping up everywhere?
Read on to learn more

In the picturesque landscapes of Manning Valley, a curious phenomenon unfolds each May—the rapid proliferation of onion w**d. While lawns typically slow in growth as soil temperatures drop, this resilient invader defies the norm, seemingly thriving amidst the winter chill. But what drives this anomaly, and can mycorrhizal fungi hold the key to its relentless advance?

As the temperature dips, grasses in Taree and beyond tend to enter a state of dormancy, their growth subdued by the cold embrace of winter. Yet, amidst this seasonal lull, onion w**d emerges as an audacious outlier, its growth accelerating with each passing day. This paradoxical vigor poses a puzzling conundrum for lawn enthusiasts and mowing businesses alike.

The intricate dance between soil temperature and botanical life unfolds against the backdrop of Manning Valley’s verdant expanse. Grass, with its innate sensitivity to environmental cues, slows its growth in response to cooler temperatures, yielding to the winter’s gentle sway. In contrast, onion w**d, fueled by an indomitable spirit, seizes the opportunity to assert its dominance, its proliferation unabated by the frost-kissed landscape.

But what of mycorrhizal fungi, the silent partners in soil fertility and plant health? While grass species in Taree often form symbiotic alliances with these beneficial fungi, onion w**d charts a different course, relying on its inherent resilience and opportunistic growth strategy to flourish in diverse soil conditions.

As the seasons ebb and flow, a glimmer of hope emerges on the horizon. With the warming embrace of spring, soil temperatures rise, heralding the potential for natural control mechanisms to come into play. As grasses awaken from their wintry slumber, they may outcompete onion w**d, gradually reclaiming the landscape with their verdant vigor.
