What if planting a tree could do more than capture COโ? What if it could also restore biodiversity, improve access to nutritious food and create new opportunities for local communities?
Thatโs exactly what weโre working towards with our agroforestry project in West Bengal, India, together with our local partner Symagine.
๐ฅณ And weโre making progress!
From 466 to 1,743 trees. Following the first planting season in 2025, we added another 1,277 saplings in 2026, working alongside 20 tribal households committed to restoring nature.
But this project is about much more than numbers.
- Food and livelihoods: Fruit-bearing trees such as mango, jackfruit and guava will provide food and the potential for additional income for local families.
- Biodiversity: Native tree species help restore habitats for birds, insects and other wildlife.
- Climate resilience: Trees improve soil fertility, help retain water and reduce soil erosion.
-Local ownership: By involving communities in planting, maintaining trees and managing local nurseries, weโre investing in long-term impact that grows from the ground up.
Of course, nature restoration comes with challenges. Unpredictable rainfall, strong winds and the need for continuous care remind us that planting trees is only the beginning. Long-term commitment and collaboration are what make the difference.
๐ช Every sapling represents a step towards a greener, healthier and more resilient future: for both people and nature.
A big thank you to the local families and our partner Symagine for making this progress possible! And to the companies we work with.
