BEEL architecten In the early 80s Stéphane Beel founded his own architectural office. In 2020 3 new partners joined the board, Sophie Deheegher, Tom Ryckaert and Tom Cortoos.

BEEL Architecten embraces the challenges of the future, and continues to create sustainable architecture, engineering and urban design in harmony with the ever-changing context. Together BEEL architecten will keep up the vision and values as installed by Stéphane some forty years ago. From the very beginning the studio was founded on a philosophy of innovation, sustainability and design, making a

difference from the first ideas to the last details. The studio embraces the challenges of the future, and will continue to create sustainable architecture, engineering and urban design in harmony with the ever-changing context. Together with their driven team of civil-engineer-architects, architects and urban planners, the partners will further develop the portfolio of the practice from their new office in Ghent. Their work includes urban planning, offices, cultural buildings, residential buildings, schools as well as private housing… such as the the ‘Rubens House’ in Antwerp, the Museum Roger Raveel in Machelen-Zulte, the Courthouse in Ghent, headquarters for the FNG fashion house in Mechelen, several extensions of the International Arts Campus deSingel, the Museum M in Leuven, Psychiatric Centre Gasthuisberg in Leuven, various schools, AfricaMuseum in Tervuren, Post X in Antwerp…
BEEL has featured in numerous international magazines including the prestigious architectural monograph of El Croquis in 2005 and in 1999 and 2011 monographs were published about his recent work.

JAN VAN EYCK CAMPUS – GHENT on Edubuild.
Proud to contribute as BEEL architects, together with Abscis Architecten and Compagnie-O Architects, to the realization of the Jan Van Eyck Campus in Ghent.

On the former Fluvius site, a new urban campus is taking shape where diversity, inclusivity, and collaboration are central. The project brings together heritage and contemporary architecture into one clear and future-oriented whole, accommodating nearly 2.000 students and more than 400 staff members.
With a strong focus on legibility, high-quality open space, and a close relationship with the surrounding park, the campus becomes more than a school: a place for meeting, exchange, and growth — for both its users and the wider community.
Grateful to be part of this new vision for educational architecture in an urban context.

The construction of the Seminary Building at the Borgerstein site in Sint-Katelijne-Waver is progressing well and taking shape. The project comprises 250 apartments, co-housing units, office space, a medical practice and hospitality facilities.

The masterplan focuses on a harmonious integration of old and new buildings, respecting heritage value while enabling a forward-looking redevelopment. The emphasis is on preserving valuable inner gardens and maintaining spatial cohesion. Demolition of the rear wing and the northern and southern connecting buildings is a well-considered decision based on heritage and structural research. The new volumes subtly reference the original layout without being exact replicas.

The architectural vision avoids uniformity and aims for a vibrant composition where historical and modern elements engage in dialogue. The front wing will be restored, while the new rear wing will deliberately contrast yet complement the existing structure. This approach ensures a balanced development that respects both heritage and contemporary needs.

In 2011, commissioned Stéphane Beel/BEEL Architecten to design a table. In the prototypes, Beel explored the essence of a table: a top that appears to float on light, independent supports. In production, this idea was realized in a flexible design with V-shaped trestle structure, varying in shape and size, suitable for work, meetings, or shared dining.

The construction site of the 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 has been active for several months. The buildings to the left of the historic town hall have been demolished, and the interior of the old town hall itself has been stripped. In the coming months, a new volume will be built next to the old town hall. It will relate to the scale and rhythm of the surrounding buildings, forming a coherent visual and functional whole. Together with the inner garden, it will link the Grote Markt and the Sint-Martensplein.

A proud moment at 𝐕𝐨𝐤𝐚 𝐇𝐈𝐓𝐓 – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, last week at the Wintercircus Ghent .
Among the visuals projected during the event, one of our designs appeared: the ViB and Bio-Incubator in Ghent.
Always inspiring to see our architecture featured in conversations about innovation and the future of our region and beyond.
