The first group expo is a fact.

In Huis De Leeuw in Machelen-aan-de-Leie (Zulte) kan je de komende twee weekends de groepstentoonstelling Exploring the Soul ontdekken. Zultenaar Bart Standaert en drie bevriende kunstenaars leggen er hun ziel bloot. Wij gingen al eens kijken.

Today I’m picking up a painting which makes me feel so much love. It found a new home almost a year ago. And I’m greatfull I can use it for my upcoming expo “exploring the soul”.

This one could not be missing because being able to touch someone’s essence is a gift without comparison.

Today I am repainting “Going Home”. A painting I’ve made from longing to return to source. In a talk with a friend who had to struggle to stay alive and live this life I got confronted with my own story. A story of victimhood I identified myself with. His passion sinked deep in me… it provoked change. With ownership and gratitude for this life I painted today “Going Home Different”.

This painting will be further finished for the upcoming expo.

What effects does the way we frame our lives and stories we tell have on our mood? And how can we improve it more consciously?

Questions that rise after experimenting with creating a mood during the live model painting yesterday. A 15 minute pose is fast to capture with oils. But the little extra framed colour has a big impact. Its worth the extra effort to create a mood, in art and in life.

2025 comes to an end and with that the resolution of making a wrap up video. It was a moving year in which I stepped far out of my studio, out of my comfort zone: exposition, art market, painting in public, live drawing events...

Looking back I feel greatfull for this growth. It's not about how the art looks, it's about how art transforms you while making it. Thanks to all who took part in my transformational journey.

Live model drawing is a practice that pushes me further and can also become meditative. Painting a pose in 10–15 minutes eliminates the time for overthinking.

Yesterday I had an off day. It took me some time to warm up, but through doing, I found my flow. In painting I find calm and grounding. Transforming...

A great model holds interesting poses that inspire the artist to add their own artistic twist. Dramatic or subtle, a pose becomes a collaboration between artist and model.

A nice thing about oilpaint is that is takes time to dry. So yesterdays autumn colours find their way in a piece I’m working on. Painting outside I do to learn, so I can paint faster and more intuitive on the pieces that come from within.

How do you look to the world?
Art is an expression of what you see or feel inside, imaginations, emotions, ... it can be simple as loving the beauty of a flower or elaborated stories about romantic encounters.

Live painting is a way to take in a place fully. As it asks focus on composition, colours, details yet requires to leave out the unnecessary details.

Live painting at the vismarkt during the legendary Salsa de Brujas salsa parties. Combining two of my passions, dancing and painting. As I take time to take in the surroundings and put them onto the canvas, I notice the beauty of Bruges that I didn't notice before. Special thanks to the friendly dancers, the Salsa de Brujas, and Bart Standaert - Paintings for giving me usefull tips to improve the painting process. - I had a blast.
