11. ACCEPTANS
′′ God, give me the peace of mind to accept what I cannot change, courage to change what I can and understanding to realize the difference." The peace of mind captures so softly the concept of acceptance (aren't you comfortable with it starting with the word God, replace to something that works for you, something bigger than you to rest in).
Acceptance like receiving life as it is, right now. What I know - and choose to - act in is one thing. What's left, that where I don't have the power to do anything about (today anyway) yes, just accept.
Sounds simple, can be really hard and seems impossible. Yet it gives peace of mind to let go of what I still can't do about. In addition, that sorting work can in itself give room for more maneuvers and more space for action to go in the direction I need and want.
Within ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - acceptance and actions are central concepts, to increase my opportunity to live a meaningful life. With that thought, acceptance can be one of the most important steps to develop.
What about the first step there? Maybe to embrace yourself lovingly and whisper the peace of mind. Today's picture is my hands that shape a heart, on a beach, in a moment when acceptance was what I had to lean into.
