EMPOWERING NAIROBI YOUTH: OVER 1,500 YOUTH SENSITIZED ON MSEA PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Today, the MSEA Director of Infrastructure Development and Innovation, Eng. Edward Karani, accompanied by MSEA Nairobi Regional Head, Madam Janet Kamotho, in collaboration with the Members of Parliament for Starehe and Mathare Constituencies, Hon. Mwago Amos Maina and Hon. Anthony Tom Oluoch, led a successful sensitization session targeting the empowerment MSEs.
The event, attended by over 1,500 youth from Starehe and Mathare Constituencies, aimed at raising awareness on MSEA programs and projects.
In their remarks, Hon. Mwago and Hon. Oluoch lauded the youth for turning up in large numbers, emphasizing that their participation reflected a strong commitment to personal and community development. They urged the youth to apply for the NYOTA program in large numbers, encouraging successful applicants to fully utilize the grant to either start or expand their businesses.
Speaking during the session, Eng. Karani highlighted the importance of formalization, urging the youth to form groups and associations and register them with the Registrar of MSEs at MSEA. He emphasized the need to focus on priority value chains to benefit from empowerment opportunities such as Common User Machines and the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) project, which offers MSME clusters targeted technical assistance, co-financing, and capacity-building interventions to boost market access, infrastructure, business linkages, and innovation.
Madam Janet Kamotho encouraged the youth to leverage the ongoing projects within MSEA and invited them to visit the Nairobi Regional Office at Nyayo House for further engagement and support.
Ms. Magdalene Mbithi, the NYOTA Program Officer, sensitized the attendees on the comprehensive empowerment package under NYOTA, which includes business development training, startup capital, mentorship, and market access linkages. She also guided the youth through the app
