It's unfortunate that in today's world, trust seems harder and harder to come by.

I was recently contacted to do a fairly large yard cleanup and fert app at an Airbnb property. The agreement was simple: complete the work and send photos when finished, then I'd be paid. I spent my time, fuel, effort, and materials getting the property looking great. Once the job was complete, I sent the before and after photos as requested.

Since then? Silence.

No payment. No response. Nothing.

Most people are honest, and I'm grateful for the amazing clients I've worked with over the years. But experiences like this are a reminder that not everyone operates with integrity.

To fellow small business owners and contractors: protect yourselves. Get deposits when possible, use written agreements, and don't assume a handshake or a message thread is enough.

We'll keep moving forward, but it's disappointing when someone takes advantage of another person's hard work.

Support local businesses. Respect people's time. Pay people for the work they do.
